Sowing guide

Hardy Annuals
(Nigella, Cornflowers, Ammi)
Can be direct sown in the ground in September and/or sown indoors and over wintered to plant out in spring. Some do half and half.
Alternatively you can save seed til spring and sow then but autumn sowing provides earlier flowers.

Lupins
Best to soak the seeds in luke warm water for 1 day before sowing. Late summer/autumn sow and overwinter then plant out in spring.

Biannuals
(Hollyhocks and Honesty)
Can be scattered on bare disturbed soil June-September or sow indoors in pots (surface sow the honesty) and overwinter ready to plant out in spring.
If you sow in autumn they should flower in summer. If you sow in spring they may not flower til the following year.

Sweetpeas
Sow in pots in September/October and overwinter for strong plants to plant out in March.. Just be careful mice don't eat the new shoots as it's a delicacy to them and don't store seed where mice can eat it! Some people soak before sowing, mum doesn't do this though.
Can also be sown in Feb/March. Or direct sow in March.

Hoping to have some cornflowers, salvia viridis, feverfew and nigella available at a later date once harvested.

The girls have decided to start their own little seed project together (initially just J, but then she decided she'd need some help so E was allowed to join 😉).
They're collecting the excess seed from my little flower farm Hannah's Garden Flowers and selling them very reasonably and the money they raise goes in their piggy banks for pocket money.

Personally picked and packed by the girls themselves 💞

Information on how to sow different seeds is easily available via search engines and the Gardeners World website has lots of info too.
