Today was busier than our opening day 😂😂😂

Which is absolutely mental considering by 9:06am our convection oven had decided it no longer identified as an oven; a few mins later the electrics tripped; then the internet joined in. An absolutely phenomenal team effort from the equipment

Meanwhile the cafe was filling up; people were settling in; Steggs orders were landing left; right and centre and internally I was somewhere between ‘we’ve got this’ and “I wonder if anyone would notice if I simply walked into the sea?’

The chefs however, were having none of it
‘Mate; we’ve got this’

And somehow they actually did

The oven was deceased; the internet had left planet Earth; the steaks were disappearing at an alarming rate. FOH was moving like we had rockets strapped to our arses and I got matcha in my eye. I don’t think I’ve said the word ‘Steggs’ this many times since I first scribbled it onto a menu before we’d even got the keys. Then the steaks really started to vanish. Before I’d even finished saying ‘we need more meat mate…’ Axel was halfway to Yarm.

The thing is; days like today make me realise something. Almost every day now somebody comes through the door because somebody else told them to. A friend; a family member a work colleague or someone online

The other day a loveky lady came in cos her specialist nurse had actually recommended she eat our food due to the ingredients we use and the way we prepare it 😭💚

That’s incredible that cos when me and Axel sat talking about this place before we’d opened; we weren’t dreaming about having the biggest cafe or the fanciest cafe. We just wanted to create somewhere that proved real food CAN taste incredible and actually make people feel good too.

The fact that word of mouth is spreading the way it is means more than we can explain

So here’s a photo of me stealing approximately 34 seconds to inhale my breakfast on the floor at 1pm because if you’ve ever wondered what owning a cafe looks like; this is it 😂

And swear down I wouidnt change a second of it
To every person who came through our doors today; Thankyou. To everyone who tells their friends about us; thank you.

And to this ridiculous team who somehow survived a dead oven; disappearing internet; tripping electrics and a near steak emergency whilst producing what felt like 17 million Steggs…

Look at this 😏

Gluten free pancakes topped with creamy Greek yoghurt; our in house berry compote and now finished with a generous handful of house made granola because apparently we don’t know when to stop

Tastes like a treat; made from actual food. A concept that continues to upset the ultra processed food industry.

No bloating; no food coma and no feeling like you’ve swallowed a mattress and need a lie down by 11am

Just proper ingredients; proper flavour and pancakes that leave you feeling human afterwards.

Meet the Steggs Benedict 😏

A toasted sourdough muffin made without all the usual rubbish. Grass fed steak; poached eggs and enough in house made hollandaise sauce to make your shirt regret coming out for food with you

Also whilst you’re all here; we do indeed have separate breakfast and lunch menus and no we don’t care what time you order from them.

We’ve never really understood who decided eggs are only acceptable before a certain time and steak has to wait until lunch. They’re both food; eat what makes you happy.

Yesterday afternoon we hosted our second Cooking with Kane’s World session at Meet n Marrow 💚

A cafe full of incredible children and their families joined us to bake and decorate their own cakes; get creative; make a glorious mess and most importantly just have fun.

The cakes were made with the same ethos we use for everything at the cafe; whole food ingredients and no refined sugar. Proof that children’s treats can still be exciting; colourful and delicious without needing a supermarket’s worth of ingredients on the label.

But for me; these afternoons have never really been about the cakes. Before opening Meet n Marrow I worked with SEN children so I know how important it is for families to have spaces where children can simply be themselves. A space where nobody is worried about a bit of noise; a bit of mess or whether they’re doing things the ‘right’ way. Somewhere they can create; explore; laugh and enjoy an experience that belongs entirely to them. And just as importantly; somewhere parents can take a breath and watch their children having fun without feeling judged; rushed or out of place.

Watching the pride on the kids’ faces as they showed off their creations and seeing parents relax and enjoy the afternoon alongside them is genuinely one of my favourite things we’ve done since opening.

When Axel and I opened Meet n Marrow we wanted it to be more than just somewhere people came to eat. We wanted it to be a place that brought people together and created a real sense of community. Looking around the cafe yesterday it felt like that’s exactly what’s starting to happen and we’re incredibly proud of that.

A huge thank you to Kane’s World for trusting us to host these sessions and to every family who’s joined us so far. We can’t wait to do it all again next month 💚

We were invited to feed 350 people on a beach with Steggs and proper burgers and honestly the response blew me away. But the bit I wasn’t expecting was Michael calling me up in front of everyone and giving me a shout out for what we’re trying to do with Meet n Marrow.

Starting this cafe was genuinely never about making a fortune. It was about getting people to think differently about food; question what’s on their plate and realise we deserve better than the rubbish we’ve been told is normal.

So getting a round of applause from 350 people at our very first big event genuinely made me cry 😂

Michael didn’t have to do that; it cost him nothing; took about 30 seconds and yet it’s something I’ll probably remember for the rest of my life.

Never underestimate what a few kind words can do for someone 💚

Last night was honestly one of those moments I don’t think will leave me for a very long time.

Michael has devoted so much of his time to creating spaces and communities where people can properly connect again. No chaos and zero pressure just good humans; the sea; music; saunas; cold dips and people coming together to share happiness; healing and genuine connection. In a world that can feel reallyyyy noisy sometimes what a beautiful positive footprint to leave on this earth man

His first event of the year sold out completely and when he asked us to do the food for it I was equal parts honoured and absolutely sh****ng myself 😂😂😂

We’ve only been open just over 3 months and although the cafe has been a roaring success; cooking on a beach instead of in our kitchen felt like a completely different kettle of fish

Thankfully I’ve got an UNBELIEVABLE team and friends I wouldn’t trade for anything. Carrying a giant BBQ; gas canisters; tables; signs and basically half a cow down a beach from two vans in the heat wasn’t exactly glamorous 😂 but my god was it worth it

The queue was genuinely longer than the Great Wall of China. We sold out of brownies in about 45 minutes and seeing hundreds of people sat on the beach tucking into our food honestly did something to my little stressed nervous brain hole

If you know me personally; you’ll know I care deeply about food and what we’re surrounded by every day. I genuinely believe changing your diet can change your life and I’ll die on that hill with a steak in my hand

And without sounding like a self-absorbed prick; I’m really proud of myself today. First ever event done and now me and axel are already mentally purchasing 5 burger vans and plotting how to launch Meet n Marrow across the UK flinging decent quality food at people 😂

Never underestimate what can happen when you genuinely care about something. Keep showing up; keep shouting about it; keep going even when you’re terrified as hell and feel like you’ve got absolutely no idea what you’re doing cos sometimes life rewards people who just care enough to keep trying.

And here’s to the girl who never thought she’d achieve much; im sorry I was so hard on you for so long.

Just a little reminder we’ll be closing at 1.30pm today because Meet n Marrow has somehow ended up catering a SOLD OUT beach event tonight and I genuinely still feel like somebody’s accidentally emailed the wrong people 😂😂😂😂

Saunas; cold dips; holistic wellness and sunset on the beach and then just us in the middle of it all launching steaks onto a giant cast iron BBQ like absolute loony tics

We’re the only food vendor there tonight which feels both unbelievably exciting and mildly terrifying hahahaha.

Huge thankyou to our butcher for lending us the BBQ and always backing what we do. Grass fed meat on a beach whilst people regulate their nervous systems feels very on brand for us to be fair. And Thankyou to Michael Harvey for organising such a fab event and trusting us with the scran side of things 💚

I’m currently operating on adrenaline; blind optimism and about 14 checklists but here we are 😂
