We have so many amazing small, independent businesses in the area and behind every single one is a brilliant person who gives not 80%, but 110% of their energy, time and resources.
Respect to every single one of you! 🙏❤️
There are so many things people don’t talk about when it comes to owning a small business.
The constant worry that it might not work.
The pressure to make sure it survives, grows and thrives.
The endless hours, not just when you’re at work, but when you’re at home too, when really you should be switching off and spending time with your family, your friends and the people you love.
For the last four and a half years, I’ve given my business everything I have. I’m not really someone who can do things at 80%… I’ve always been more of a 110% kind of person. 😂
And if I’m being completely honest, some of my friendships have suffered because of that.
So to my friends, I’m sorry. ❤️
I really am.
I do try my best to spread myself as thin as I possibly can, but sometimes there simply isn’t enough of me to go around. If I ever go quiet, please know that I’m okay. I haven’t forgotten you, and I don’t love you any less. Sometimes I’m just completely exhausted and need to regain enough energy to face everything that needs to be done.
I’m incredibly lucky that the girls I work with have become so much more than colleagues. They really are my work family. They support me emotionally, pick me up when I’m struggling and look after the business when I’m not there. And sometimes, when I finally get home, they’re the people I want to talk to because they understand the world I’m in. ❤️
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone thinking about starting a business — especially anyone like me who struggles to do anything by halves, it would be this:
Don’t forget the people around you while you’re building the thing you love.
Look after your family.
Look after your friendships.
Look after yourself.
Because burning yourself into the ground trying to make something successful isn’t the only measure of success.
It’s much easier to tell someone else this than it is to actually do it yourself. Believe me, I know. 😂
But recently, I’ve been trying to make more time for the things that bring me joy. To slow down a little. To enjoy the people around me. To remember that life is happening while I’m busy planning the next thing.
Because you never really know what’s around the corner.
And despite all of the worry, the long hours, the exhaustion and the moments where I wonder how on earth I’m going to keep all the plates spinning…
I love my life.
I love my family.
And I love my friends.
So if I’ve been quiet, just know that you’re still very much in my heart. ❤️
I’m just trying to find a little more balance between building the life I want and actually remembering to live it. x
