Step 3: Lay down chitted seed potatoes at 30cm spacing : Maris Bard (First Early), Cheyenne, Charlotte and Allouette, (Second Earlies).
All but Charlotte and Maris Bard were saved from last years crop: kept in the fridge at untillaying out for chitting in seed trays in early February. Cheyenne is a delicious red skinned salad potato no longer available on seed lists which i've kept going for more than 6 years. New organic seed potatoes are sourced from Tamar Organics at around £4.95 for 1.5kg so it's worth saving tubers for next year. However, Tamar remain the best value for certified organic seed pots compared to other online sources such as Potato House.

Lovely pic of our current FYM suppliers. Alpaca poo is surprisingly pleasant to work with compared to poultry and cattle manure and is locally sourced. Also known as Black Gold, it is rich in nutrients and handily, alpacas tend to poo in a pile in their field and not in their night quarters. I do still have to actually collect the good stuff with the trailer and always enjoy their company while doing so!

A good hour's work rotovating two previously covered areas on the trusty Kubota. Always makes the soil look good enough to eat!
The area with the tractor will be for this years potatoes, the longer area will be sown with bee-friendly Phacelia and Crimson Clover as green manure.

More experimentation- I usually buy in onion seedlings from Tamar Organics (not cheap) since onion sets became scarce a few years back and plant them out early May with mixed results- last year, most of the red onions failed. This year I started by multisowing 5-6 seeds per module in early February (Bajosta-white & Robelja- red) and have just planted out the results at 30cm intervals each way under protective fleece to keep any frost off 'em. I'll let you know how they do.
