My name is Hannah Lewis and I am a local Didcot resident with a young family. Family life for us revolves around food, my two boys have a big and growing appetite. I try my best to cook good healthy food using the best ingredients I can find. I am really keen for my boys to understand where food comes from, seasonality of different fruits and vegetables and to try as many different foods as possi
ble. So I shop at farm shops, markets, butchers and online with supermarkets. I am a working parent and I am very busy so I don't always have time to shop around and visit different producers to buy our family food. I have searched for a way of getting the best British seasonal produce easily and at a fair price. While searching I came across The Food Assembly network and discovered there was not one running in Oxfordshire let alone in Didcot so having run my own businesses in the past I leapt at the chance to start so both I and my local friends and wider community can simply purchase good food online on a click and collect basis. The Didcot Food Assembly is a new venture starting in June 2017 that is to build a community of people who are interested in purchasing more of their fresh produce from local farmers and food producers. The Food Assembly provides an innovative framework for assembly members to purchase food online just like a supermarket click and collect transaction. Then the producers and assembly members meet once a week. The members pick up their shopping having already purchased through the website so no cash is required. We all meet at the same time, same place every week. The Food Assembly is established across Europe but Didcot Food Assembly is the first in Oxfordshire.
