It might just look like a scruffy bit of paper… but this little sheet tells us a LOT about what’s coming this autumn! 🐑❤️
On Wednesday, in the middle of the day and a rather ridiculous 35°C, the team were busy scanning our Poll Dorset ewes.
Scanning is basically an ultrasound for sheep. It tells us who’s in lamb and whether they’re expecting one, two, three (or more!) lambs.
We then mark each ewe with a colour depending on what she’s carrying — red for one, blue for two and yellow for three. That means when lambing starts, we already know what we’re expecting and can quickly spot when a ewe might need a helping hand.
🌱 Most sheep lamb in the spring, but our clever Poll Dorsets are one of only a handful of breeds able to naturally lamb out of season. We lamb in the autumn so we can bring you genuine new-season lamb for Easter.
Dorsets generally have a lower lambing percentage than many other breeds, and after the heat and dry weather we were a little nervous about what scanning might reveal…
But the girls have done us proud — a very tidy 142%! 🙌🐑
Now we just need the temperature to drop a little for our expectant mums!

Good news — we’ll be stocking them again this autumn! 🙌
They’re expected to be back in the shop around September, and we’ll be sure to post as soon as they arrive.

Thank you so much to everyone who has called or messaged about our apprentice/weekend position.

It’s really lovely to hear from so many young people who are keen to get involved in agriculture! 🌾🐄

We’ve had lots of enquiries, so please bear with us and give us a couple of days to work through them all. We will respond to everyone.

We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on person to join our friendly dairy team!

🐄 The role includes:
• Moving & collecting cows
• Feeding & bedding youngstock
• Foot bathing & assisting with sanding
• Routine robot maintenance
• Supporting and covering the dairy team
• General farm duties

No experience needed — just a willingness to learn, work hard and get stuck in. Full training given.
