Exciting MILK news!!

We've been wanting to get this sorted for some time, and are absolutely delighted to say that we'll start getting deliveries of Mossgiel organic dairy semi-skimmed and full-fat milk in 1L glass bottles from this Thursday 4th June 🙌

What makes this milk exciting?
☑️ Organic
☑️ Pasture-fed
☑️ Non-homogenised (cream at the top, better flavour!)
☑️ Reusable glass bottles, zero single-use plastic
☑️ Fairness in the supply chain
☑️ 'Low and slow' batch pasteurisation for better flavour
☑️ 'Non-standardised' whole milk (creamier, less processed, tastier)

Some pics from the last Cook Your Tea of our funding stream 🧡 They chose to make sushi again, a common request as most love making it in Cook Club, and chocolate cupcakes.

This money has enabled us to provide skills-building cooking courses to 70 children over the past couple of years, and it has been the most wonderful fun watching children grow in confidence in the kitchen, try lots of new foods and learn to like many of them, and to hear the feedback from participants telling us how and what they're cooking at home as a result of these classes 😍

The good photos in this line-up are from our wonderful new volunteer , thank you so much for your time and help! And a huge thank you to Sylvie for her years of volunteer support, and to those who have helped out on an ad-hoc basis when weeks need filling. Thank you all so much 🙏

So delighted that Cook Your Tea will continue next week, thanks to new funding from 🎉 Very much looking forward to working with our new group through June.

Belhaven Community Garden needs our help with their bid to buy the garden land: if you're able, please pledge today!

NHS Lothian are currently evaluating their request to purchase Belhaven Community Garden so that it is protected in the long term for the benefit of everyone living in the local area. A decision is expected in July.

In the meantime, they are busy preparing an application to the Scottish Land Fund for a grant towards the purchase cost, to be submitted in the next three weeks.

⭐ This is more likely to be successful if they can demonstrate the ability to match a grant with local crowdfunding. ⭐

They are therefore asking for pledges to indicate how much they are likely to be able to raise through a future crowdfunding campaign.

If you are in a position to make a pledge (however small) then please do so NOW!

This is just an expression of support. If the application is successful then they will start actual fund raising.

These sessions are all booked up now, sorry for any disappointment. For those with P4-7 aged children who would like to do more cooking, we have a couple of spaces on our November Cook Club course and then will add names to next year's registers(!) The dates are June 30th, July 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th (all Tuesdays), 10.30am - 12.30pm at .

These sessions are open to children ages 7 - 12 and are free of charge to attend. Spaces are limited, so we're restricting it to one session / child at first.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Join our wonderful Community Carrot project: The Community Carroteers.

Abby and Jill are one of 9 befriending pairs that we have matched over the last year.

I asked Jill for her thoughts on her experience, and her first reaction was this:

“Danielle, how does this relate to me? I’m 85, and I can do my own shopping. Having health problems is something that I can deal with. A ‘stranger’ every week! How will I cope with that?”

But I had been struggling, I agreed because the Crunchy Carrot Shop had been good to me in many ways, I trusted it, and if I could help, I should. And so I met Abby, my shopper, and everything changed. How could I possibly think I was helping? Abby is a tremendous help, quiet, efficient, funny, professional, and now a good friend. I have more energy to spare, I never run out of things, I make lists, and I look forward to not shopping. I feel more independent, not less, and I feel a lot happier. I am very lucky indeed. Thank you, Crunchy Carrot, Danielle, and most of all, Abby.

Can you spare 2–3 hours a week (or every two weeks)? We need volunteers to deliver shopping to someone in a rural area who may be isolated or struggling to get out.

It’s a shopping + befriending role—drop off the bags, then stay for a wee cuppa and a blether.

Interested? Come and join the Community Carroteers—our brilliant team of volunteers.

For more information, please get in touch with Danielle at [email protected] or leave a wee message in the chat here.
