The problem with being a forager and driving along many of the A roads in England!!!!

Just stop and let me at'em!!!

Ok so I wouldn't eat them from the roadside anyway but its always where they are plentiful because they are deliberately planting traditional hedgerow type plants but also because people don't cut them down because they're not in anyones way!

Its such a tease!!! πŸ˜†

The recent salmonella outbreak that is suspected to have come from imported eggs, from multiple sources has resulted in one death & hundreds ill.

The trouble with importing food products is not all countries have the same health standards as we abide to. Cheaper generally means lower quality, lower standards & less concern for welfare of the animal & the final product.

UK egg producers have standards to stick to. Salmonella testing is not mandatory but I suspect after the outbreak in the 90’s the majority will pay Β£60 a few times a year to confirm they are salmonella free.

The British Lion mark is a standard introduced after the 90’s outbreak & many eggs you’ll find in supermarkets carry that mark BUT not all suppliers will. Us included! Why?!

Because Lion want Β£2,000 a year for us to be a part of their programme & carry their mark. As a small producer I can’t justify that cost so I ensure our salmonella tests are done properly & regularly just like those in the Lion mark scheme.

If ever there was a time to make you think about who you buy from & where you buy it then this is it! Buy British, buy local, support small business.
