I was asked recently if I made grapefruit marmalade. I used to but then concentrated on other flavours. But I told the person that asked that I would make some. So now I’ve made it, a full tray of grapefruit marmalade, 227 g and 40 g jars…….. but I have no idea who it was that asked me!!
But it’s here if you see this post!!

At last!! I’ve made blueberry jam that has set!!! Had so many problems in the past, but it appears to be ok this time!

I am sometimes asked why I charge £4 for a 227g jar of jam. I’ve been told it’s expensive, that people can buy cheaper in Lidl.
That may be so, but when it’s taken me three hours to prepare the fruit and a further three hours to cook it , I’ve bought fruit, sugar, jars, lids, I actually think you are getting a bargain!
If I was to charge for my time, as well as the ingredients, gas, electric, labels I’d be having to charge £12 a jar, at the bare minimum!
As I don’t factor in my time, and some of my jars are returns( all lids are new) I can sell at £4 a jar. So please don’t tell me my jams and marmalades are too expensive!

Sad day for Jill’s Jams!
I have used the very last of my hexagonal 70g jars.
The manufacturers have decided that they are not wanted any more so ceased production last year. At the time I bought as many as I could afford and store, thinking they would last till the end of 2026. Unfortunately I’ve reached the end of the jars before the end of the year!
I am now making smaller jars as well as the normal 227g jars, so those of you that just want a taste to see if you like a certain flavour, can still get smaller jars. But it’s not what I wanted to do! My hand has been forced!
If anyone had any of the hexagonal jars in their cupboards, I will take them back and make a few jars in that size.

The last Friday fair at the United Reformed Church in Cockermouth! After the food fair in September we will be moving to St Joseph’s church just a skip and a jump up the street.
Lots of great stalls here as well as the charity stall in aid of No Rainbows Without Rain.

Many thanks to the birthday fairy who crept in and decorated my stall during the night!
