We hold artisan cheese & wine tasting events on a Thursday (see our website)

Wine bar open Friday & Saturday nights - 6pm to 10pm. Starter Culture was founded in September 2019 by Rachna Dheer. A female driven team, our independent shop in the Southside of Glasgow sells a wide range of cheeses, drinks and deli items, such as baked goods, charcuterie and other nibbles and accompaniments from the best local suppliers around. Plus, you can also pick up some of our pretty tasty grilled cheese sandwiches to keep your hunger pangs at bay. Click & collect in-store, or UK-wide delivery available.

Our tastings in October have been selling out fast! We have some spaces left for our special sparkling w**e & cheese tasting on the eve of Halloween - this will be a really fun one so go to our website to buy tickets for it.

We have all of the tastings for the rest of the year on our website now - so if you have always wanted to come to one we recommend getting tickets soon before they sell out!

Introducing two new French orange w**es to our shelves, both are from a similar region but are unique in flavour.

-When Life Gives You Oranges is a w**e produced by a family run vineyard in the small village of Limoux. It’s a great introductory orange w**e, full of juicy peach and apricot notes and aromas of bitter orange with a hint of nuttiness. It’s fresh and vivid with a nice acidity.

-Felicette’s First Contact is an orange w**e full of character. It’s 20 day skin contact results in a textured and aromatic w**e that balances freshness with complexity. Notes of zesty citrus,dried flowers and exotic spice with a crisp mineral-driven finish.

Octobers month’s grilled cheese is smoky and spicy, it’s a taste of Spain using many of the Spanish ingredients we have in store.
The heat level on this one isn’t super intense but defiantly makes your tongue tingle, it is balanced by the creamy Manchego and the sticky sweet pineapple jam!

Next up in our 7 favourite things about the shop is .. OUR TEAM 💕

The phrase “I don’t chase, I attract” comes to mind when I think about the people who come to work in the shop, as they are always the kindest, most interesting and knowledgeable people! The team has changed quite a bit over the years but a constant is the nature of the people who come to work at Starter Culture.

We laugh, cut cheese, sell olives, present tastings, try new w**es, draw posters, pet dogs, mop floors, pack boxes - I truely believe there is nothing we could not do!

Thank you to all of our team - old & new.

Next up on our 7 favourite things about the shop is the tasting night events we hold every month!

Our tasting events are on multiple times a month and almost always sell out, we often see the same faces again and again which just proves to us how much you all enjoy these evenings in the store.

We enjoy sharing our knowledge about the cheese and w**e in a more relaxed setting than the day time shop, you are always so receptive and a lot of fun especially when the w**e has gone down abit too well!!

We will continue to host these nights and collaborate with others to come up with new and interesting events for you to come and enjoy!

Next up for our 7 favourite things about the shop is another one of our favourite and most long standing brewers - Dookit Brewing

It’s hard to say what we love more about Dookit, their brews or the main man Harry himself. Of course we have to say it’s the b**r because they are bold and expressive yet stay humble. Always delicious. Always innovative. Supports local artists. Collaborates with other producers. The list goes on..

Harry delivers us a new batch himself and always has so much knowledge and insight when he does, along with lots of passionate rambling about brewing or even just what his week looks like, we get a cheeky sample b**r for us to try so we know what it tastes like to tell our customers 🤝🍺

Thanks for all the amazing b**r you’ve brewed over the years that our customers (and us) love. Here’s to many more 🍻

If you don’t know them by now, then we heavily encourage you to give them a follow and try some of their delicious preserves. So many interesting and unique flavours, they also do the classics so well.

We love how it was originally named after their dog Juno!

We stock their full range - subject to change as they bring out seasonal flavours often.
