This week’s recipe is lettuce and spring onion Soup, perfect for this week with the weather a little on the cooler side there is nothing better than a warming bowl of homemade soup. This soup is light, comforting, and packed with goodness. Lettuce is a great source of vitamins A and K, helping to support your immune system and overall wellbeing, whilst spring onions provide antioxidants and vitamin C to help keep you feeling your very best.
New season washed Maris Peer salad potatoes have arrived in the market, we have included them in both boxes. If you would like to try something a little different cook the potatoes then add a large k**b of butter, 2 tablespoons of pesto, salt and pepper to the warm potatoes and serve. 50g pot pesto £1.40
Box boxes include new season English bunched carrots, these are freshly harvested in late spring to early summer. They come with their green tops still on, these are best removed as they carry on drawing moisture from the carrot, then store the carrots in the fridge. These carrots are exceptionally sweet and tender compared to the winter stored carrots. Best eaten raw, roasted, or lightly cooked. Delicious served with village greens flavoured butter. Village Greens Flavoured Butters – Garlic and Lemon – Village Greens, Charlesworth
Spanish cantaloupe is now in season, sweet, juicy and full of flavour. Eating fruit when it is in season means you can enjoy it at its freshest, tastiest and most nutritious. Cantaloupe is packed with vitamin C to support your immune system, they are in both boxes this week.
We have included tenderstem broccoli in our £25 boxes this week, a cross between Chinese kale and broccoli, it couldn’t be easier to prepare, you can eat the whole thing from tip to stem. It doesn’t take long to cook, you can roast it, griddle it, grill it, steam it or eat it raw. It is especially good served with melted butter with parsley, lemon and garlic.
This weeks cheese is the delicious Comte, the flavours are clean and greatly influenced by their surroundings. Dotted with charming villages and luscious pastures, the mountains of Jura in eastern France provide fresh grass for the Montbéliarde and French Simmental cows during the summer. From their milk, the local creameries produce the iconic flavours and aromas that characterise Comté. This is definitely one of our favourite cheeses. Why not add a packet of our delicious fruit toasts, the flavours and crunch are the perfect accomplement for cheese.
