A wild swarm has taken up residence in the swarm box.

Sometimes I get asked to assist with bees in a house or garden and they turn out to be bumbles instead of honey bees. Here’s a beautiful little bumble bee colony who have decided to take up residency in a bird box in Ford End. Bumble bees are usually very docile and cause no issues at all. They are great pollinators too.

Of all the plants in the garden at this time of year, I think the cotoneaster is the bees’ favourite.

I put a swarm box on my friend’s shed roof in North End in Essex, I think it’s worked and we have another one.
