Our kingfisher Watercress dal has gone and become a Great British Food Awards finalist 🥳

Made with the ‘ugly’ watercress from Kingfisher Farm & Flower Shop just down the road. Too good to waste, so we cook it with yellow lentils, garlic and spices, then sell it both here and back at Kingfisher.

A very Surrey beginning with an Indian ending. Quite proud of this one.

Watch this space for the final results x

Late summer in the barn, and there’s a proper run of things on.

Every last Friday it’s Beer, Curry and Quiz Night, a different themed three course menu with local craft beer and a quiz worth turning up for, on 28 August and 25 September.

Then the workshops begin. Our Spice Masterclass on 8 September, ninety minutes on what spice really does, with a spiced cocktail and a £30 kit to take home.

Soap making by hand on 9 September.

Biriyani two ways on 15 September, our twenty minute method next to the award winning one.

And Paint and Chai with Nathalie on 23 September, a quiet morning with a paintbrush, chai and samosas to start.

Five ways to spend a morning or an evening with us in the Surrey Hills, right through to the end of September.

Swipe through, then book your place on the website, link in bio x

Another weekend, another lovely event this time celebrating a special birthday.

Friday evening was all about good food, great company and bringing a little bit of Mandira’s Kitchen magic to the table and this time we were delighted to have collaborated with our neighbors at Silent Pool Distillers

A little something for all the A-level lot…

We’ve always been lucky to have brilliant young people working with us while they study for their A-levels, so Results Day feels rather personal round here.

To everyone collecting results, enormous good luck. The whole of Mandira’s Kitchen is cheering you on.
Come and celebrate with us. If you’re collecting your A-level results, the drink is on us.

Tag your A-level person so we can cheer them on too! Xx

Last week the barn looked like straight out of a fairy tale location. Imagine having proper food drinks and quiz with the view!

Every last Friday of the month, our barn by Silent Pool fills with the aromas of a brand new Indian menu, freshly cooked and inspired by a different theme each time. Alongside it, we welcome local craft breweries who share their beers, their stories, and a complimentary tasting to begin the evening.

Then comes the quiz. A little friendly competition, a prize worth winning, and dessert to finish.

Our bar is stocked with wonderful local drinks like Bunta Beer® - British Indian Non-Alcoholic Beer, Silent Pool Distillery, Albury Vineyard ~ Wine Tasting, Tours, Events sparkling wine to our own Indian cocktails and soft drinks.

It is an evening built around good company, great local producers, and food made with care.

If you’d like to join us, we’d love to see you.

Every last Friday of the month. Next one is on 28th august!
Book early, link in bio, these evenings do tend to fill rather quickly.

Today was all about weddings. A tasting this morning, then an unexpected wedding party turning up for lunch at the cafe .. Clearly, love was in the air.

From little bites with a twist to barbecues and generous thalis, there’s nothing we like better than wedding food. Not a bad day at the office and huge congratulations to both the bride and groom-to-be and the one who just became Mister and Missus!

Everyone thinks afternoon tea begins with a scone.

Mine begins with the rumble of Dad’s jeep and a heavily laden trolley making its way across the veranda in Assam.

The afternoon sun would catch the pick bougainvilleas and emerald green tea bushes. On the trolley were sandwiches, tiny handmade samosas, cauliflower fritters made with vegetables from the mali bari, cakes, puffs, hot chocolate for us children and tea from the factory barely two kilometres away.

That was afternoon tea to me. Assam in all its glory.

So yes, our afternoon tea at Silent Pool has scones, jam and clotted cream. But this is not a British afternoon tea with a few Indian things added for effect. It is a tableful of my childhood memories.

My mother’s chutney and tomato sandwiches on beetroot bread. Chicken tikka on spinach bread. Bombay bhel. Little samosas. Masala and cardamom scones with rose jam made from roses grown here, clotted cream and our tomato and date chutney. Mango lassi and bottomless chai, because one cup is frankly never enough.

Quite possibly the only Indian-inspired afternoon tea in the Surrey Hills. Certainly the only one born from these memories.

From one green hillside to another. Assam to Silent Pool.

It’s Afternoon Tea Week from 10 to 16 August, so bring a friend or two and come and sit at my table. There will be a complimentary glass of rosé too, because summer afternoons deserve one.

£35 per person. Served daily from 12pm to 4pm.
