Today was not quite our usual Tuesday lunch service. There were cameras, cables, a very special guest and the usual MK madness, just with extra people holding very serious equipment.

To everyone who came for lunch, thank you. Thank you for turning up, for smiling through the chaos, for being patient, kind and very much part of the story. Your presence meant a great deal to us.

We cannot say too much yet, but when we have a date, we will let you know.

I’m taking you to my city, Calcutta. A city of tram bells, bookshops, endless conversations over tea, and recipes that have travelled through generations.

For me, Bengali food has always been about comfort. Fragrant rice, gentle spices, fresh herbs, mustard in all its glory, and dishes that are full of flavour without ever needing to shout.

I can’t wait to share a little piece of my city with you.

I’m taking you to my city, Calcutta. A city of tram bells, bookshops, endless conversations over tea, and recipes that have travelled through generations.

I’ve designed this wallpaper for our entrance partly because it’s beautiful, but mostly because it tells stories.

Inspired by the miniature paintings that flourished in the courts and palaces of India centuries ago, these scenes were created to capture life as it unfolded. Gardens in bloom, travellers on horseback, women feeding peacocks, music, celebration, family and all the moments in between.

I’ve always wanted Mandira’s Kitchen to be a collection of stories too. People gathering over chai, birthdays celebrated, friendships made, recipes passed on, and memories created around a table. A little bit English, a little bit Indian and entirely its own thing.

A hundred stories sitting happily side by side. Rather like us.

We’re open seven days a week. Come in, have a wander, stay for lunch, afternoon tea or simply a cup of chai. There might just be a story waiting for you too. Mandira xx.
