Took a little time out between jobs (and rain showers 😀) this morning to pop on my wellies and chew the cud with my old friend, Ian, at the Wetland Trust, viewing their cattle conservation grazing down by the Military Canal. As you can see the cows are thriving on it.

Such a beautiful and wildlife diverse place - always prefer a walk along here compared with the high traffic beach.

Whilst Ian and myself were working at the market yesterday Emma and my brother were here at the South of England Show. Good to see at least one of my suppliers in the ring here. Well done to all involved in producing these beautiful cattle.

Also a big thank you to the commentator who whilst recommending a whole region wide list of Farm Shops and Butchers mentioned us as just one of two butchers across the Hastings & Rother area (and I am very happy to stand alongside my neighbour in this respect). These County shows are the pinnacle of local farming and to be mentioned on this hallowed turf is an honour. Many thanks

Sorry we have been rather quiet on here of late but things have been rather busy, with some very long days. Hence changes have been, and are being made to make things a little easier for us all. Hats off to the team who have worked like absolute trojans for the last couple of months and have all put in extra hours. We now have an additional member to our team, which is already making life easier and we will introduce them to you soon.

We are looking forward to being at Lydd Farmers & Artisan Market this Sunday. If you would like to place an advance order for any of our meat packs to be collected from market view online at www.oldbutcherspett.co.uk and to order those or anything else, please just drop us a line.

As well as lots of BBQ goodies I have also been ordering to stock up the veg stall this week. Kirsty will have local new season strawberries, raspberries, new potatoes, asparagus, broadbeans, peas, tomatoes, courgettes and all the usual goodies.

As BBQ season is now officially here, just a reminder that we stock Sussex Sustainable charcoal all year round.

Easy light and sustainably produced.

Available in 3kg and 5kg bags. £9 and £13.50 respectively including VAT.

Also in stock are their wood wool firelighters. These work extremely well and one box will light 50 fires.

This weekend, and back for it's third year is Pettfest at the Royal Oak Pett. Promising a fun packed weekend there is some great bands and an extensive range of beers and ciders in the beer shed.

Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat are running the charity BBQ on Saturday. We are running the hog roast on Sunday, which will be available with all the trimmings, home made apple sauce, sausage based stuffing, home made coleslaw, encased in lovely rolls from the Bakery. We only do this once a year and we are going the whole hog! :D

On Sunday we have favourites The Ragati String band and the 1066 Rocketmen playing.

We are now closed for the bank holiday. However if you missed us you can find us at Lydd Farmers & Artisan Market this morning.

A limited range of our meat produce can now also be found at Salts Farm Shop in Rye, Rye Harbour Stores, and Rye Premier Stores in addition to The Little Shop in Winchelsea.

We are at Lydd Farmers & Artisan Market this Sunday. Please can we have your preorders by midday on Friday.

Lydd Farmers & Artisan market is open from 9.30am to 12.30pm on the First Sunday of each month Lydd Community Hall, Manor Road, Lydd TN29 9 HU (next market Sunday 3rd May)
They have all types of Food & Craft stalls and our Hot food and drinks caterer stall by the door.
There are up to 25 pitches in the Main Hall and 8 pitches in the smaller hall.
There are also Monthly Deals by many stallholders, who have a Pre order service that allows you to pick up at the market.
Most stalls are Card or Cash payment
