Gary has been on his travels and has spent this week “Down Under” at the other side of the World in Australia!!
After being crowned World Champion Butcher last year he was invited to attend this year’s “Meat Stock” an International event which was held at the Royal Sydney show ground in Sydney’s Olympic Park this week!!
Butchers from countries all over the World came together for a week full of butcher shop tours, social nights and the main two day “Meat Stock” event!!
Spread across the main two days each butcher from every country was given a half an hour slot to cut, prepare and display a half lamb and half saddle of pork, then explain what they had done in front of a massive, very enthusiastic, Aussie audience!!
Gary was more than delighted to accept the invitation was truly honoured and proud to go and represent Scotland and Scottish Craft Butchery!!
Complete with the kilt and bagpipes, Gary took to the stage yesterday to create a truly Scottish display featuring Haggis, whiskey, sqian dubh’s, clan crests, thistles, flags and a full selection of Scotland’s traditional cuts of lamb and pork!!
He was delighted how it all went down with the crowd… with the Aussies especially loving the march on with the kilt and bagpipes and the Scottish touches to the display… It’s safe to say they are a fan of the Scots over in Oz!!
Gary’s theme for the display was “The Flying Scotsman, Gary Raeburn, Flying the Flag for Scottish Craft Butchery, at the Other Side of the World!”
It’s a fair flight going to the other side of the world, but Gary says this week has been the greatest honour and one of the proudest moments of his butchery career, flying the Scottish flag and representing Scottish Craft Butchery in Australia!!
He would just like to thank all the organisers of the event for inviting him out, the hospitality received while in Australia and the work they put in to making the great event it was!!
And to all the other Butchers from across the world for making it a truly memorable week and a great way to celebrate the big 40th birthday!!!
Now the Journey home starts for Gary making the long journey back to Good Old Huntly Toon but with great memories and stories to be told!!
