Laura has had a week from hell, starting with sheep rustlers!
We are in awe of her pluck, determination and resilience.

So if you ever needed a reason to support local farmers, start with half a dozen eggs bought at your local farmer’s market.

Friday is Kendal Farmers Market.

After our hurrendous week of worry after getting some of our sheep rustled including all our field of tups, Sean has no choice but to go to Kelso Tup Sale Friday, so I need be home to do farm and kids. It’s tupping time in a few weeks and we have no tups! So the pressure is on Sean to go buy some!

Never fear though as this is KFM we’re talking about here! Simon is going to take all my stuff and set up for me and between Simon and Tom from Cross Apiary I am sure they have the egg sales bossed!

I will get there just don’t know what time that will be then I have the anxiety of finding somewhere to park as my usual space will be gone 😬🙈🤣

O the joys of farming 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ this week I have asked myself more times than ever before - why do we bloody bother!! 😬
But then quickly realise this is not just our job it’s our way of life and wouldn’t change that for the world!

And before anyone asks, no the police totally useless and couldn’t care less!!! So much for their rural crime team hey!

Earlier this month, ’s Dr Helen Manns attended the Cumbria Farmer Awards 2026 that took place at Carlisle Racecourse.

The university sponsored the sustainability and environment award, a category which recognises agriculture sector work that supports nature and the environment.

Congratulations to Jane Eden and Chris Evans of Askerton Castle Estate, which is an organic livestock farm situated near Hadrian's Wall.
