It’s Official! The Inn at Kingsbarns is Community Owned

The wait is over and Kingsbarns now has its very own Community Pub! It’s an exciting milestone for Kingsbarns and will present a wealth of opportunities for the community as it develops into a ‘hub’ in the coming months and years.

The Inn is under new management with Mark Lewis at the helm. Mark has a wealth of experience in hospitality and is looking forward to welcoming the lovely folks of Kingsbarns to The Inn. We are also delighted that Anne Ramsay, a familiar and friendly face of The Inn, will continue to work in the pub alongside Mark, and will be instrumental in ensuring operations run smoothly during the transition phase to community ownership.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Annette, Maxx, and the team, for their help, support and patience throughout the process.

As you can imagine, we have a lot do during this phase and whilst we are excited about having an ‘official’ launch party soon, we will be taking things one step at a time over the next week or two, just to get us up to speed with operations and staffing. We also have an amazing team of volunteers, who will help accelerate this process.

However, we are very much open for business so why not pop in for a drink and say hello to Mark, Anne, and the team. You’ll be most welcome, and please bear with us as we find our feet.

Finally, we are pleased to report the Share Offer is going well and we’ve extended it until the end of August, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to buy a share(s) and have a say in how The Inn is run. Hello everyone! We are now at the exciting stage of recruiting for a brand new enthusiastic new team to join The Inn at Kingsbarns!

If you are keen to get involved, we are looking for:
*General Manager (can be live in, would also suit a management couple) -full time
*Chef (also potential to live in if the GM role doesn't live in) – full time
*Breakfast Chef – part time
*Waiting and Bar Staff – full and part time
*Housekeeping Staff - full and part time

Update: Inn at Kingsbarns Community Buyout

Thank you to everyone for your continued interest and support of the community buyout. We wanted to give you a brief update on the current state of play.

First, we are actively pursuing a manager for the Inn (community hub) and have had a great response to the recent job ad. We expect to have more news of an appointment soon.

Second, and in common with many property purchases, the due diligence and legals can take some time to complete. Whilst this is taking longer than initially anticipated, we are happy to report that lawyers for all parties are working together to get everything finalised as soon as possible.

Third, we will be launching a community share offer in May to help raise funds for running and development costs. This will be an exciting time and a major milestone in our journey to create a much needed and successful community hub for all to enjoy.

We will keep you updated with news and dates for your diary. In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support (and patience). Rest assured the finish line is in sight!

We are delighted to report that the community acquisition of the Inn at Kingsbarns is underway!

The details are yet to be finalised, but assuming everything proceeds as planned we expect to be able to take ownership on 15th April 2024. There will be more news about community shares and a celebration of this milestone in the history of the village in the very near future, but in the first instance, we need to appoint a manager to help with the transition. The First Round 🍷 Right now we're fundraising to buy the Inn at Kingsbarns. We'll combine a grant from the Scottish Land Fund with funds raised in this all-important Crowdfunding campaign.

Time for a quick one? Here's a wee story about our community buyout...

As you may know, the Inn at Kingbarns is up for sale! Back in 2022, after a successful community consultation, Kingsbarns Community Development Trust (KCDT) set the wheels in motion to purchase the pub for the community. Here are some more things to know...

🍺 The plan is to create a community-owned hub within the Inn at Kingsbarns, adding a shop to provide for essential needs and a cafe for uplifting, everyday catch ups.

🍺 Once the community has raised sufficient funds to buy the Inn, the KCDT charity will own the building.

🍺 A registered Community Benefit Society will be the trading company, responsible for managing the Inn and maximising profit for other community related ventures and activity. A paid professional manager will be employed to run the hub.

🍺 Lots of work has been done up to now, to secure the appropriate funds needed to purchase the property. Our first stage was to submit an application to the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) which was successful, raising £590,000.

🍺 AND we've raised 65% of our Crowdfunder target of £20,000!
