Autumn is here and has kindly brought us some much-needed rain. 🌧️

Do you remember those heatwaves? Seems like a long time ago now…

It might be time to get the slow cooker out, give it a wipe down and start thinking about the sort of food that makes this time of year so good. Dig out that croc pot from the back of the cupboard too and get things cooking slowly 🐌

Rich, braised beef. A proper sausage casserole. Maybe a good chilli 🌶️ — brisket works an absolute treat in one of those.

Curry is another absolute winner when it’s cooked long and slow. Grab some Lamb Neck from us and get it going in the morning. Shoulder Shanks are another great one; chuck them in before work and come home to something properly comforting.

And if you’ve got leftover chicken from Sunday, why not turn it into a banging Butter Chicken?

Oh, and don’t forget Beef Short Ribs. 😋 oh short ribs......wow!

Autumn might mean the BBQ season is winding down, but we reckon the slow cooker season is just getting started. 🍲

Autumn is coming to Cornwall 🍂

Lots of holidaymakers have come and gone for another Summer, the children are back at school, and things are starting to slow down a little.

That means some of our seasonal BBQ offerings will be disappearing too, and our burger display will slowly shrink as we make room for the return of Sunday roasts, hearty stews and proper autumn comfort food.

There’s something rather lovely about this time of year. Cooler mornings, darker evenings and the smell of something slow-cooking in the oven.

So, what are you looking forward to eating over the next few months? 🍽️

Roast beef? Lamb shoulder? A big pot of stew? Something else entirely?

We'll nail out colours to the mast and say this is the best growing region in the UK.

You've got great cattle in Scotland, and you've got great cattle in the Lake District, but the length of our season and milder climate really helps. The moors are the growing ground, and the lush river valley is amazingly rich fattening ground, and that's what makes it special.

It's a massive strength for our partners and for us.

Great hospitality comes very naturally to us because we try to treat every customer exactly how we would want to be treated ourselves.

In this current climate, how hard is it, really?

Remember people. Take time to get to know your customers. Take a bit of pride in what you do. Make people feel welcome and they'll trust you and keep returning.

It really doesn't need to be complicated.

We’re incredibly proud of how we do business — but more importantly, we’re proud of how we get the finest produce onto your plates.

We put an enormous amount of care, time and effort into our butchery, but our Hot Food Counter gets every bit as much love and attention.

Nearly 600 of you lean on that counter every day for something - pasty, beakfast roll or just some coffee, and the team behind it work incredibly hard to make sure it’s good, every single day.

And then you see things like this — folk grabbing their lunch, finding the nearest sunny wall and simply sitting down to enjoy it.

It might seem like a small thing, but scenes like this make us incredibly happy. Good food, a bit of sunshine and people enjoying what we do. That’s what it’s all about.

Enjoy your weekend, folks! ☀️

Here at Philip Warrens, we think our South-West reared Lamb Chops are hard to beat.

Whether they're cooked over the barbecue, pan-fried with a k**b of butter, or grilled until beautifully caramelised, a good lamb chop is one of life's simple pleasures.

Crisp on the outside, juicy in the middle, and packed with flavour – sometimes the classics really are the best.

Now, where's the mint sauce 🤔

We're incredibly lucky to have Helen as part of our team in our Rock store.

Not only is she warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable behind the counter, but she's also brilliantly talented when it comes to our chalkboards.

Each one is hand-drawn with care and creativity, so keep an eye out for her latest masterpiece the next time you're shopping with us or driving past.

We think they're too good not to admire!
