I (Nikki) do the social media and ask everyone in the business to send me pictures or videos of what they are doing while they can.

This morning I received the picture of Matthew from Claire and the video of Claire from Matthew. Matthew is incredibly hot and sweaty from cleaning the grain shed and Claire is doing a rain dance. Both thought it would be funny if I put the pictures of each other up! Little did they know their spouse had sent an equally silly pic.

That’s one thing Claire and Matthew are pretty good at, having a laugh and creating fun! When the news is so grim from the Cairngorms it pays to remember to have a laugh sometimes. Hope this brought a smile to your face!

NEW IN THE SHOP

We are absolutely delighted to be selling flowers from Symone at Steading & Co — and our very first delivery arrived today!

Beautiful, seasonal, locally grown flowers, grown with healthy soil and without synthetic chemicals. Every bouquet is completely unique, made with whatever is looking its best and is at its peak that week.

Symone has written a little about why she grows:

“I started growing flowers simply because it brought me joy.

For so long, life had become a series of obligations — things I had to do because of responsibility, commitment or necessity. Somewhere along the way, I'd forgotten what it felt like to do something simply because it made my heart lighter.

I continued to grow flowers because I wanted to share that joy with my first child, Lucas, when he was born. I wanted his first summer to be spent in a garden alive with colour, texture, fragrance and wonder. I wanted him to grow up surrounded by buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies, birdsong and the quiet magic that a thriving garden holds.

For Lucas, for ourselves, and for everyone who shares in what we grow, it matters that our flowers are raised without synthetic chemicals, in a way that nurtures rather than depletes. Every stem is grown with healthy soil biology at its heart, because we believe the healthiest gardens are those that work with nature, not against it.

Each bouquet is a unique surprise, made from whatever is at its peak that week. No two bouquets are the same. Expect a natural mix of colours, textures and scents.

These flowers are more than something beautiful to place on a table. They are a reminder to slow down, to notice, to celebrate the seasons, and to find joy in the simple things again.

I hope they bring a little of that joy into your home, too.”

What if I told you that simply visiting a farm could change the way it's farmed?

In my last post, I wrote about how buying directly from farmers has changed the decisions we've made at Ardross.

But it's bigger than that.

The way farmers earn a living shapes the choices they make.

For decades, many farms relied almost entirely on selling into commodity markets. The rewards were often for producing more, becoming more efficient and meeting ever tighter specifications. But something interesting happens when people become part of a farm's income.

Whether that's through a farm shop, a wedding venue, self-catering cottages, farm tours, cafés or pick-your-own fields... farmers suddenly spend much more time with the people who enjoy the countryside they're looking after.

And people tell us what matters to them. They love seeing wildflowers. They notice butterflies. They ask about birds. They want to see healthy animals grazing outside.
They enjoy wandering through fields full of life. They don't come to experience efficiency and uniformity. They come to experience a farm.

So, naturally, farmers respond. Not because someone tells us to. Because our customers value it. When people value wildlife, beautiful landscapes and healthy animals, they become a bigger part of the farm's future.

Every visit, every conversation and every purchase sends a message about the kind of countryside people want to protect. That's one of the reasons I believe supporting local farms matters so much.

Because you're not just buying food. You're helping shape the future of the landscape around you.

And that's incredibly powerful. 🌱
