Friday Food Delivery Menu for August 14th is up and taking orders - thank you for the many that have come in so far, this one will definitely be closing early! ❤️‍🔥
Sri Lankan flavours and seasonal produce are the inspiration - Devilled Prawns in a tangy spicy sauce made with Barcombe Nurseries tomatoes, some of the same will go into the Kakul Mas, Chicken Curry made with whole thighs from nose2tail and more delicious seasonal veg’ from Barcombe will go into the vegan Red Curry with their potatoes going into the optional Potato Mustard Curry side.

When I cook I do so with 100% love & care, 0% ultra processed foods (aside from my deep fat fryer which runs on sunflower oil, not rapeseed 🤢) which I will be firing up for some delicious Lentil & Potato Fritters. I use as many locally sourced ingredients as the menu will allow and always design my menus to be as seasonal as possible. And when I can’t buy from local growers I use Halls Fruit & Veg who buy from local wholesalers - I invariably need to top up from supermarkets, but I try to keep this trade to a minimum.

So, if you fancy a finish at home take away this weekend (the food is cooked on Thursday and Friday and will be good all weekend, does not have to be eaten on the Friday) but you don’t want the sodium hangover and you care about where your food comes from, let me cook for you this weekend. It’s literally just me in my farm yard kitchen in the rural Sussex countryside. Working hard and consistently doing what I can to counter the end stage capitalist sh*t show. Independent food businesses need you now more than ever. Margins are shrinking week on week and the future looks pretty bloody terrifying tbh.

I make 20 portions of each main - this week they come with Lemon Rice (but a brown rice supplement if you would like, it’s only 20p), Cabbage Varai and a Coconut, Lime & Parsley Sambal ❤️‍🔥

This planet we live on is astonishingly beautiful, remarkable, miraculous. I love how this shaky hand held time lapse clip of this evenings sunset really emphasises the fact it is us on the blue orb that is moving around and away from the sun, at many thousands of miles per hour. Quite a thing.

Even more mind blowing is the fact that a hand full of white men are running a death cult fuelled by their wealth addiction that would literally rather see this planet and so much of the miraculous wildlife that inhabit it literally burn to the ground than not pursue their next billion or ten. Not just that they exist and have this ambition, but that they hold power over our governments and media and are being enabled by each to push through their death agenda. Truly wild.
What functions for thought in their heads?

I hope that you are able to get a break over the summer. If you feel rested and have time and know people who aren’t rested and have no time, maybe reach out to see how you can help them catch a break.

Increasingly we are each all we have.

Sometimes I write full recipes in Hope’s Kitchen, my weekly newsletter, sometimes I write brief descriptions. This week is a week for descriptions of the salad buffet I made with Cate for a writers retreat at the beautiful led by the brilliant - the next one is in September and almost sold out already….details on the Grain Store website and link to Hope’s Kitchen in bio and stories.

July is my business birthday month - it’s 12 whole years since I pimped my pram and headed out with my Friday Food Deliveries.

It was a business designed to work around our daughter’s prolonged treatment protocol for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, which she successfully completed in January 2015, two and a half years after being diagnosed in the autumn of 2012.

My business today is a crazy creature, a direct product of my flight response to the stress of living through years of paediatric oncology- wherever my mind fled to during countless hours in hospital, whatever idea it landed on, I picked up and ran with. And so now Seven Sisters’ Spices is a many horned beast - I event cater, run workshops and pop ups, have a range of products, recipe develop and write on this platform while still offering a once monthly Friday Food Delivery.

As I steam on into my fifties and all that brings I am keener than ever to rationalise my working life. My dream is to write, teach and have my products, letting the catering drop away. Which is my most profitable income stream? You’ve probably guessed correctly. Part of committing to writing weekly editions of Hope’s Kitchen on Substack is a drive to make my dream come true. I am hugely grateful to the support found there for my writing. Thank you followers and subscribers. This post is a lift from a note posted over on Substack. Like so many, my energy reserves are low, hence the doubling up.

Here’s my converted Silver Cross in all her fine new livery, I could have painted her all day long, back in July 2014.

A visit to my mum and dads turned up my Gran Cornwalls recipe book as gifted to her by her niece Patsy in 1943. Swipe for a cooling beverage recipe 🍋🍊

How old would Patsy have been in 1943 ? I love her drawings.
