Some more limpets.
I returned to these as they’re something I can make at home when I can’t get to the studio and I wanted to try them with my current glazes. More importantly, I do just love limpets!

I’m back from my trip now and happy to say the pieces I took over to the States, survived their journey. I’m heading into the studio today to pick up a couple of bowls and to glaze a few more.
This is from a couple of months ago, trialling for a series of pebble inspired bowls. I’m happy with the naked clay/glaze contrast and oxide seams. I’ll play around some more exploring these.

Another of the forms inspired by the pebbles. This one’s coming to America with me tomorrow for my brother.

This was another of the limpet inspired bowls. I like the contrast of the unglazed, ridged interior with the smooth blue interior. More variations of this to come.

I’ve been very focussed on bowls lately but will come back to this sort of form.

This sort of form, with bands of glaze and oxides, is one I’m still exploring.
I like the warmth of this particular clay and the colour variations of these glazes, coupled with the metallic effect of the oxides, reminiscent of seams in rock.

A step away from the limpets, this asymmetric bowl shape with a ridged exterior and glazed interior is a form I’m exploring further.
I love following the clay’s lead but working to create the ‘right’ curves from all angles.
I currently have another seven of these sort of bowls, different sizes and profiles, some in this white clay, some in the warm grey/brown clay, on the go at various stages of the process.

This piece was made after finding some fabulous whelk shells on Ainsdale Beach. They were particularly textured with very defined ridges spiralling from their point to the ear and I wanted to work those textures into some pieces.

This is the sister to yesterday’s piece, made with a different clay, but surprisingly, the same glaze. It came out green on this one.
I liked the warm tone of this clay so bought some more. You’ll be seeing it a lot. It’s nice to work with and is grogged so has a nice, slightly speckled finish.
