Starting to get tidied up at Pili-Pala, after a very wet winter. It's amazing how the place starts to look better, as new compost is added and w**ds are choked under the tarps. The w**d pressure this winter has been intense, with relatively mild weather keeping them coming in a relentless succession.

Today is a milestone, as i've sown the tomatoes - 5 varieties, as well as some lettuce. I will now be sowing more or less every week now until mid summer.

We have all sorts going in this year, although I've reduced the farm down to less than 1/2 acre to make it more manageable and efficient. I still expect output to increase however.

Let's hope the sun makes an appearance soon....I've forgotten what it looks like. ☀️

Much love x

Here comes the garlic 😁

The garlic we planted in November has now burst through the soden compost, and the rest is hot on its heels. I am still planting garlic, at least until the end of January. Otherwise, I am preparing the poly tunnel and starting to think about the first sowings.... which I expect will be early February, in the heat of the kitchen! Lots going on in 2026, with broccoli, beetroot, cucumber, tomato, basil, lettuce, beans....just a few examples of the produce on offer.

Can't bloody wait until spring 🌼

Merry Christmas and a happy New year folks. It's been a busy one, with all the usual challenges. Plenty of mistakes 😕 but also many successes.

The hottest year on record has sure proven tough for many of our crops, and my heart goes out to fellow market Gardeners up and down the country who work so hard in an ever changing climate. The economic pressures are equally testing, and your support for locally grown produce from small scale farms makes all the difference. Thank you.

A big thanks to my lovely family, for putting up with endless garlic, beetroot chutney, and a bonkers dad. Love you. X

Here's to 2026, and whatever it may bring.

It's that time of year again! November is a great month to plant garlic, and we have started to bed these cloves in for the winter. Several thousand are split and ready to plant. The farm looks messy, with mountains of compost clumsily dumped around the fading and bedraggled summer crops that didn't quite make it to the Spar! Mild weather has encouraged some late w**d growth, and the rain has stopped any serious attempts to get things under control.....oh well, I always get there in the end.

Pili-Pala Farm is a market garden, just 2 miles outside of llanfyllin. We grow an ever expanding range of fruit and veg on our no-dig south facing hillside plot, and use no chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. When you buy our produce, you do so in the knowledge it's freshly picked and travels just a short distance to your shelves.

Thanks for all your support. X

It's been a great year so far, with the kind weather bringing on the produce - especially the hot crops such as tomatoes. These are tasting lovely and sweet, and arrive in the Spar at Llanfyllin, or Derwen farm shop within 24 hours of being picked, sometimes the same morning.

This is truly local and fresh food, full of nutrients and flavour.

A big thanks to all those who regularly buy from us, it really helps us grow, and supports the small regenerative market garden movement.

Much love
