We’ve been conditioned by industrial food systems to believe that certain products that require huge amounts of labour, time, land, skill and international logistics should somehow still cost next to nothing.

And if there’s one food system this belief runs deepest in, it’s cacao/cocoa.

That’s probably because we’ve spent decades consuming super cheap industrial chocolate products and being taught that anything related to chocolate should cost pennies.

Dig into the history books and you'll find all the different civilisations that used cacao ritualistically did so in different ways.

Most of us pop mood supplements, guzzle nootropics, brew herbal teas or throw mushroom powders into smoothies hoping they'll boost our mood, mental state or functioning. But very few of us choose what we’re taking with deep precision.

We rarely match specific compounds to a desired state, scrutinise dosing suggestions or question whether the format even makes sense (gummies, I'm looking at you).

More often, we just follow whatever's being hyped the hardest.

I’ve been in this herbal/wellness world for years. It’s why plant medicines have always been at the heart of the cacao elixirs I make. And I realised it was time to take you behind the scenes and show you how I actually experiment with this in real life.

So I’ve started a Substack.💫 It’s where I document my personal experiments with different plant compounds and state-shifters. What I took, how much, what it felt like, what worked, what didn’t and whether I’d do it again.

I’ll also be sharing notes from trips abroad, including experiences with compounds you can’t yet access in the UK.

The aim is simple: to help you make more informed, intentional choices about what you take to achieve certain states, and which formats are most likely to work for you.
