Do you know the difference between a for profit company, a charity and, a social enterprise?

Young people getting hands on and learn about doing business through setting up a social enterprise.

I would like to thank the Social Enterprise Academy for giving me this opportunity to learn and develop and more importantly of helping young people (and their parents and teachers) to see an economy beyond extractive practices that are focussed on profit making for the few to the detriment of the many.

Support the work of the Social Enterprise Academy and get involved in whatever way you can! https://socialenterprise.academy/get-involved/

The thing I love most about going to farmers’ markets is that I get to meet and chat with other mushroom lovers.

Sometimes these encounters lead to exceptional things, like when video that blew up and she tagged me so much that my lion’s mane sales blew up 🥰

So today I met someone very special and we are thinking off how we could collaborate in the future. Watch this space!

Today was also a very special day because .y1000 who has been volunteering for the last two months accompanied me and we have some great news about markets on the autumn!

So contact me if you have an idea for a collaboration.

And thanks to all the people who engage in conversations about our shared passion for fungi!

My mum always said: ‚Der Wind, der Wind, das himmlische Kind!‘ (The wind, the wind, the heavenly child!). Anyway, due to wind forecast the market on Sunday is cancelled. If you want fresh Oysters or Lion‘s Mane and live in South London, contact me directly. I may be able to deliver. On the plus side, I am now able to attend a friend‘s 60th birthday party.

Look who’s come and got the very first piece of the Lady Coral (Coral Tooth Fungus - Hericium coralloides) that was found just 200 meters away from where we are standing! None other than Can’t wait to see what she’s going to cooking applying her magic skills. I’ve still got some plus Oyster mushrooms and Lion’s Mane (fresh, double extracted powder and tincture.

Did you know that Oyster mushrooms have some
astonishing abilities?

Like all mushrooms and animals they need to digest their food. They do this by using enzymes and then absorb food.

Oysters can even be carnivorous by trapping and ingesting nematode worms which provides them with nitrogen and other useful chemicals. Vegans don’t worry though, I grow mushrooms on straw that does not contain any worms.

These mushrooms contain statins which are thought to help reduce cholesterol.

Oyster mushrooms can positively impact gut health due to their high fiber content and bioactive compounds. They act as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and potentially reducing harmful bacteria. Specifically, their high levels of beta-glucans, a type of fiber, can slow down carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption, which may be beneficial for blood sugar regulation.

They also have the ability to clean up pollution like petrol and oil and research is being carried out to develop this further for use in bioremediation.

Start your growing journey - just like I did - with a quality grow kit. Available are Blue, Grey and Summer varieties.

Sunday, 13th of April, Telegraph Hill Centre (SLUG Stall) where I‘ll be sharing information about The South London Mushroom Community Garden co-created by The South London Mushroom Club and S.L.U.G.
