Customers often ask me how I started my small business and I always say that it was due totally to the fact that my three gorgeous daughters are growing up fast and have either left the nest or at the very least flapping their wings furiously ready to leave! Now that my job of being a full time mum and chauffeur is nearly done, at last I have the time to do what I have always dreamed of doing; cre
ating my own range of jams, chutneys and marmalades made with fresh and, if possible, locally sourced produce and to sell them at local shops, farmers’ markets and farm shops. So in November last year I made my first chutneys and marmalades and went to my very first farmers’ market. It was freezing cold and I did not really expect anyone to buy from my small stall. Still I braved the cold, conquered my nerves and to my amazement I had a great time meeting fantastic people who were really interested in cooking and buying from my small range. I now cook nearly every day and the initial range has increased to 10 different flavours; from traditional piccalilli to boozy marmalade with whisky and red fruits jam bursting with sunshine flavours.
