Growing Communities

Growing Communities Join our climate-friendly fruit & veg scheme, visit our farmers' market, volunteer on our growing sites. Be part of the movement for better, fairer food.

GC is building a fairer and more sustainable food system by bringing communities together to support small-scale, organic farmers and food producers. Our fruit and veg bag scheme has 30 collection points across Hackney and Haringey. Our farmers' market happens every Saturday, 10am-2.30pm at St Paul's Church, Stoke Newington Road, N16 7UE. We welcome volunteers on our Patchwork Farm in Hackney. For more, please see our website.

We had a great afternoon hosting the Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs, Dame Angela Eagle, and other DEFRA officials at Dagenham Farm in London recently, and showing her the amazing wrok we do feeding Londoners with fresh organic food and healping local schoolchildren learn where their food comes from. 🌱
Together with our partner organisations at the UK Fruit and Vegetable Coalition, we made the case for a ‘Market Garden Support Fund’ in England which would provide organic agroecological market gardens with capital needed to establish and scale-up their enterprises and support the valuable public engagement activities that many market gardens offer.

We loved showing Minister Eagle and colleagues at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) what we are achieving here at our Dagenham Farm. In the past year alone, we grew 6 tonnes of organic vegetables and welcomed 1275 visits from schoolchildren and 650 other visitors, while training four new food growers and welcoming many volunteers to experience food growing first hand.

Small market gardens like these that are close to where people live punch above their weight in terms of public engagement, productivity and the wider food system and supply chain.
