The London Food Project

The London Food Project Food is the common ground we can all understand. To find out more, email [email protected] London is a city rich in people. Please share us around.

People of all nationalities, of all cultures, of all walks of life. So often, this diversity, instead of being celebrated for the strength it is, is reduced to labels, intolerance and newspaper headlines. Figures and statistics pertaining to migration are easily misrepresented or presented with bias and therefore dehumanise this most human of subjects. The very people who have enriched our society

, sometimes beyond measure, become marginalised and vilified in favour of political rhetoric. To change how we engage with this subject, we need to seek ways to humanise it. To remind ourselves that migration is about much more than raw data. We think that by approaching this from the universal human concept of breaking bread, the focus becomes, once again, human. The London Food Project will be a free website tracing the migration of people and their food to London. By visiting people’s homes and photographing and sharing food from their country, we are personalising the journey. Migration stories, listings of events, music, books, films and, of course, recipes, will encourage people to overcome their fear of the ‘other’. This is a not-for-profit looking for people to cook with, to help out with the running of the project and share the joy.
