The Cavner family have been selling fish in Loughborough since 1879. Their family values and knowledge have been passed down from generation to generation and the current business is in the capable hands of Louis and Perry Cavner. The business was founded in 1879 by George Cavner originally as a fruitier. He soon released the need for a high quality fishmonger in the town and established "George C
avner & Sons Fishmongers" in 1884. From here on it was passed on from father to son (all with the name George - conveniently) until it reached George Cavner and his Son Sidney Cavner (Louis and Perry's Great Grandfather and Grandfather). Sidney had two sons, Neil and Michael who both wanted to take over the business and as such, The first Cavner Brothers Fishmongers was born. This partnership grew, but as both men had children, they parted ways to allow their sons to each take over part of the business. Neil Cavner and Son branched out and took Melton, Uppingham and Oakham Markets, and Michael and his two sons, Louis and Perry continued trading under the name Cavner Brothers Fishmongers. In 1991, Michael took semi-retirement and passed the business to Louis and Perry (though he still helped out on Thursdays for a good ten years after this!)
Today, the business has expanded to such a point that both Louis and Perry's wives help on market days, as do their children! With an ever expanding town that is Loughborough, Cavner Brothers hopes to remain around, serving the townsfolk just as they did in 1879 for many years to come.
