A little mole poking its nose up in the garden — one of my favourite moments to catch.

An old photo, but a good reminder of what’s quietly happening below the surface. All that life in the soil, all the movement you don’t always see. One of the things I love most about growing organically — making space for wildlife and letting biodiversity thrive alongside the crops.

It’s all part of why I love working with nature and doing what I do 🌱

Packing up some beautiful Bocking 14 comfrey today — these ones are heading off for wildlife conservation work. We’ve already supplied the RSPB this season, along with plenty of organic growers, which feels pretty special.

Our comfrey is grown organically here at Ragmans, and every root cutting is hand‑prepared from strong, established plants.

Bocking 14 is a star: sterile, non‑invasive, and incredibly productive by year two. Great for mulch, compost, liquid feeds — and the pollinators love the flowers.

Cuttings are available March to early May, so if you’d like to book yours before the season ends, just get in touch.

First job of the day — prepping the spring onion bed ready for planting 🌱

A simple crop, but one that earns its place every year. Reliable, full of flavour, and always one of the first signs that the season is properly underway.

These are from last year’s harvest — grown organically, in healthy soil, and pulled fresh from the bed. Hoping for another good run this season and plenty more bunches to come.

Spring equinox today — and it really does feel like a turning point.

The last of the willow work is being wrapped up — a winter of cutting and hard, physical work outdoors — and now I’ve found myself shifting back to seed trays and soil. A different kind of effort, but a welcome one, and the quiet excitement of getting things started for the season ahead.

The greenhouse is filling up, beds are being prepped, and everything is slowly coming back into motion — all grown organically, as always.

There’s a shift in the business this year too. I’m stepping back from personal veg boxes and putting more focus into supplying local businesses. It feels like a good, grounded decision — doing a bit less of everything, and more of what works well.

Which means… a lot of salad. I’ll be going all in on salad bags this year — packed with vibrant leaves and edible flowers, all organically grown, with real care put into quality and consistency. They’ll still be available as usual, just as part of this new direction.

A steady seasonal shift - from willow to seeds, from planning to growing, and into the year ahead 🌱
