September is here and so it’s back to work or school but we have delicious cheese that may help bring holiday memories back!

Staring with Spain; if you’re reminiscing about Manchego we have two to try:
Wakebridge - a nutty sheep’s cheese made by Dan Mason from his family’s herd of ewes at Wakebridge Manor Creamery in Derbyshire.

Corra Linn – a hard sheep’s cheese made using Spring milk from introduced by Selina Cairns flock of ewes on the family farm in the Pentlands, South Lanarkshire.
If you’ve tasted the Spanish blue cheese Calabes then try a raw milk Stichelton. It’s a soft blue cow’s milk cheese made in the style of Stilton using only the morning milk.

All three are great with English Quince paste, made using the whole quince rather than just the juice which is used for Membrillo. It’s back in stock on the counter at our Chorlton shop.

Finally, as an alternative to the very famous Torta del Casar we have Little Rollright; a soft and creamy washed rind cheese from Gloucestershire which can be eaten in the same way, removing the ‘lid’  and tucking in with pieces of bread, or baked in the oven.

Available in our Chorlton shop and Altrincham stall.

Organic Olive Oil made by The Gay Farmer (and Olive Oil Sommelier) from Arbequina olives from a single estate in Zaragoza,Spain. A Great Taste 2025 winner this fruity, delicate slightly peppery olive oil is the perfect drizzling oil.

Available in our Chorlton shop and Altrincham stall.

The Mini - If you want to say a quick 'Thank you', 'Congratulations' or 'Thinking of you' or just a mini gift this little box does just that. A mini chutney, mini oatcakes and 150g from a choice of 5 traditional regional hard cheeses, all boxed up with a blank card for your message. Very cute!

Available in Chorlton & coming to Altrincham shortly.

St Jude - This is an amazing raw milk, soft, cow's cheese, a little bit farmy and very indulgent. This has been tasting excellent since before Christmas and with the consistency of taste and texture this is a great testament to the cheesemaker, Julie.

A very deserving winner of Best British Cheese - if you're into St Marcellin but with a very British twist, then give this a go.

Raedwald - A pasteurised , washed rind, cow's cheese from Fen Farm Dairy, the amazing dairy that produces Baron Bigod.

This is a seasonal cheese (and we may well be getting to the end of it for this year), very soft & light, a gentle take on the French Reblochon. The flavours are reminiscent of smoky bacon & mushrooms.

Poacher 50 - a hard, 4 year aged, raw cow's milk cheese from Lincolnshire. This was an award presented by the Specialist Cheesemakers Association (SCA), an organisation that advices and supports micros cheesemakers.

This is a sweet, almost parmigiano style cheese, fruity with a massive taste. We only started stocking it earlier this year but it has proved a huge success. If you looking for something a bit different from a cheddar that's almost a parmigiano.

Last weekend saw the Artisan Cheese Awards take place at Melton Mowbray.

The awards are designed to support artisan cheesemakers in the UK and Ireland. And it is clear how the amount of producers across these countries are growing with 644 entrants this year from over 100 cheesemakers.

The only restriction to entry is that they need to be micro – medium size cheesemaker who produce commercially no more than 400 tons of cheese per year in total.

And you will be delighted to learn that here at Chorlton Cheesemongers we stock a number of the winners, 7 in fact, and over the next few days we'll let you know which ones they are.
