Dean has worked in kitchens around the world – with Gary Rhodes in Edinburgh, at Ye Olde Fat Ox in Holywell and on Richard Branson’s private Necker Island in the Caribbean. He’s had quite the career in the kitchen, making a name for himself with both the North East food scene and Michelin Star chefs.

Now, he’s ready to open his newest venture in the Grainger Market – LJ’s Mexican Street Food.

Gerry and Sewell have a canny pre-show routine, and it starts in our alleyways and arcade.

A stop at Geordie Bangers for some proper scran, a fresh trim at Grainger Barbers and a browse in Geordie Gifts and they're ready to take the stage in the Theatre Royal.

The lads are in town from Tuesday to Saturday and there are still a few tickets left if you fancy a night of Geordie chat.

1979 was a big year for Newcastle. Queen performed in the City Hall, Alan Shoulder scored 21 goals for NUFC, and a flat cap was worn by the majority of people who passed through our alleyways.

The Grainger Market still holds a special place in the hearts of many. Since 1835, it has been more than just a market - it’s a place to visit, wander, wonder, and lose yourself in the stories and characters that make it so unique.

Paula has settled into her new Alley 4 unit. After 20 years of dipping saveloys, stuffing breakfast sandwiches and making strong brews from alley 1, she’s over the moon to have a new unit in a new alleyway. ♥

How canny does it look. ⭐

Jamie got into photography because of his Grandad. He always liked taking pictures and capturing a moment – even as a bairn he would carry a film camera with him everywhere.

Every few weeks Jamie hops on a train from his home in Durham, carrying his camera and heading straight to the market. His first stop is always a flat white from Pumphreys Coffee Newcastle, before wandering our alleyways and arcade to capture the charm of the market.

After a few hours of doing what he does best, he grabs some lunch, usually from SnackWallah, Acropolis Street Food or Meat:Stack, before heading home.

Here’s a selection of images from his last visit. 🎥

A few months ago, Alesandra from Forest Boost moved into the unit next door to Dave at Manhua Cha - and it didn’t take long for them to become a familiar duo around the market.

the two traders have built a great connection - spending their days side by side, swapping bubble tea for açaí bowls, sharing stories, and adding something new to the market experience.

It’s all part of what makes Grainger Market what it is - a place built on community, independent traders, and great food.
