Many people who work under our roof work day in, day out for a very long time. It's a place they want to stay. Here’s a selection of pictures of traders from 10 years ago – all still trading today. ♥️

Behind every storefront are friends, family and people who have worked side by side for generations.

We are proud about a lot of things when it comes to our market, but without a doubt our community of unique traders is at the top of that list.

A true Geordie classic. ❤️

Jack and the team at Hunter's Deli serve hundreds of Saveloy Dips every week. It's one of their most popular orders with people who have eaten the sandwich for as long as they can remember and those trying one for the first time.

Made with a hot saveloy served in a soft stottie, pease pudding, mustard and dipped in a rich gravy – just the way it should be.

Hunter's Deli is just one of the traders we have selling locally-made stotties. Find more this week as part of the Big River Bakery's National Stottie Week.

"It's almost like a love letter to Newcastle."

This weekend, step into the stories that make our city so special. Newcastle based theatre company The Six Twenty have been collecting memories from people across Newcastle - those who have lived here for generations, those who now call Newcastle their home, and everyone in between.

The result is a guided audio tour as part of NOVUM, beginning in their Alley 3 unit before leading you through Newcastle, told through the voices of the people who know it best. The audio talks through people's favourite memories - visiting the Grainger Market to buy some tripe on a Saturday morning, picking up a new record on release day at Maxie Share and the past Fenwick windows that have made Christmas even more special.

It's a celebration of the places, people and moments that shape Newcastle - past and present.

The tour is free and lasts around an hour. Get your tickets here - https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thesixtwenty/2239762

Viktor and his brothers started Acropolis 10 years ago. From their first days trading on Quayside Market to opening their first bricks and mortar shop here in the Grainger Market, it's been a decade full of milestones, hard work and plenty of gyros.

Along the way, they've been crowned Greek Restaurant of the Year, filled gyros for famous faces including Adam Richman and Didier Drogba, and built a community of customers who keep coming back for more.

As the shop turns 10, Viktor reflects back on the journey they've been on so far.

"This Grainger Market shop was our first proper baby. We couldn't have started somewhere better - surrounded by likeminded neighbours and such a helpful community.

"We've had some people working with us since day one and others who have joined along the way and become part of our Acropolis family. We're so proud of what we have built and hearing customers come back again and again means the world to us."

To celebrate a decade of Acropolis, the guys are selling £5 gyros today and tomorrow. Choose between a chicken or halloumi gyros, packed with fresh salad, homemade tzatziki and signature Acropolis chilli sauce.

"I think there's lots of reasons to visit Grainger Market. It's got history and tradition, it's beautiful and it's got a vibe of it's own."

Katherine has visited the Grainger Market most weeks since launching the Slow Shopping UK Initiative in our alleyways. We sat down with Katherine to find out what she thinks about this place of ours. ♥️

It’s been a year since Caroline visited Little Bazaar to buy a card for a mate and walked out as the shop’s new owner.

Since then she has built quite the collection of crystals, welcomed a host of new customers who have become regulars and become part of our canny community.

She’s looking forward to what’s to come. ❤

The French Oven have a long line of hungry people at their counter every day. An award-winning bakery with decades of experience and a healthy list of awards under their pinnies, a trip to The French Oven is worth it for the smell alone.

We asked Chloe, Lisa and Dennis what they’d choose from the counter – this is what they told us.

Chloe said: “A cheese and onion pasty. I’m a vegetarian so have tried my fair share, but The French Oven’s really are some of the best.”

Lisa said: “My favorite thing is the steak and kidney pie. You just can’t beat it. There's a hearty portion of meat with a rich gravy. Lush.”

Dennis said: “Today I’d order a lamb and mint pie because I spent the morning making them. I know just how good they smell.”
