The Carnduff family established themselves into the butchery world twenty-three years ago in 1993 when Hamilton Carnduff opened the doors to his first shop in the small village of Saintfield. It wasn't until 1996 that H & J Carnduff would establish itself in name, when Hamilton sold his small village shop, to move to the heart of Newtownards in Conway Square. But in order to bridge the gap, from a
small village to the much larger market town, the two brothers were forced to sell up in Newtown Park in order to run the larger shop to its full potential. Several years would pass before the Carnduff brothers would expand any further, opening two concession stores in the SPAR Ballyhalbert and McCann General Stores, Balloo. The partnership too would soon grow, with the introduction of Hamilton's son John as a business partner. John brought innovation and a new lease of life to the business, and soon the family would strike up a deal with Henderson Retail Group, shaping the H & J Carnduff of today, taking control of multiple concession stores dotted across County Down. In 2015, the Carnduff family was awarded the Best Independent Retailer award at the Ards Borough Council Business Awards and this only has motivated us to further improve our business, starting with renovations of our flagship store in Conway Square, in order to produce better produce display and allow for a more efficient customer flow.
