Just a little extra lemon info shared from our lovely wholesalers Watson & Pratts in Lampeter, Wales.

We are stocking green verdelli lemons this week which does seem to get a few second glances and questions. Lemons need cold nights to turn the vivid yellow we have become accustomed to. In the summer time this isn't possible and so they tend to be a little greener if they are European, but they still taste amazing!

The joys of working with fresh fruit and veg. Mostly the oranges are a completely normal size (left) but sometimes they are randomly enormous (right). Whilst it does make pricing and ordering the correct quantities a challenge at times it is a genuine joy as I feel it’s a side effect of working with small, organic growers and allowing that glorious diversity to come through from grower to consumer.

Couldn’t resist photographing a citrus medley today! Clockwise we have - standard lemons, limes, crinkly cedro lemons, bergamots (oh if I could photograph their scent!), standard oranges and clementines. All around the centrepiece of stunning Moro blood oranges - the beauties that got me clicking! What wonderful variety to be blessed with.

Well that’s a wrap on another year of vegetable deliveries folks! We wish you all a joyful festive season and good health and happiness for the new year.

Robert was so happy to be able to donate this lovely stack of fruit & veg to Social Supermarket - The Feed in Norwich. Kilos of parsnips, sprouts, beautiful citrus, carrots and onions amongst other things. The Feed are a fantastic project offering low cost groceries and free fruit & veg to those that need it. A delight to share the wonderful food we enjoy in our Folland Organics community with others at this time of year.

Thanks to all our lovely customers who keep these food links flowing with their support and to local Meadow Harvest also supporting The Feed and putting us in touch with them.

We’re taking a two week break for some restful family time and will see you all in the new year!

We are delighted to welcome a new member to the veg packing team today - Mr Cedric Celeriac. He’s a down to earth, hard working fellow and whilst he’s been a bit of a distraction today we’re excited (and amused) to be working with him.

The blood oranges are a thing of beauty today. One of those ‘oooohhhh’ moments when unpacking the pallet.....and as I type Bob has said ‘wooooowwww!’ So here are the globe artichokes too.

We love kumquat season!

New in this week - kumquats - tiny oval citrus fruits that you can eat whole. These give you the opposite to what you would expect from citrus. When you first bite into it you are hit with a burst of bitterness from the inside that would easily put off a newcomer, but give it some time and the bitter flesh subsides and gives way to the subtle sweetness of the skin - delicious!

Well....we were warned from the beginning of all this Brexit business that the loss of EU workers would have big effects on availability of UK produce. We weren’t expecting the cardboard box issue though!

I see you. Sunset cauliflowers looking pretty much perfect this morning. Talking to the grower this afternoon she explained there are plenty in the field ... but not only is she struggling to find the labour to cut them, but now can't buy the cardboard boxes to put them in. Very odd times.
