🌹 Rose Harvest Season 🌹

June is when the roses truly begin to shine.

Soft petals, warm sunshine and that unmistakable scent drifting through the garden. It’s one of the most beautiful moments of the herbal year.

For generations, roses have been treasured not only for their beauty, but also for their place in traditional skincare, herbal preparations and summer rituals.

At the Herbarium, rose season is a reminder to slow down, notice what’s blooming and enjoy the abundance that midsummer brings 🌿

If you stop and breathe them in, roses have a wonderful way of making ordinary days feel special.

What’s flowering in your garden right now?

Better late than never, here's what happened in May!

Some months seem to disappear in a blur. This wasn't one of them.

May brought a birthday (55 and still getting excited about plants 🌱), a wonderful day hosting one of three gardens for Whittington Open Gardens supporting Save the Children, a Herbal First Aid workshop at Babbinswood Farm, and plenty of time spent admiring foxgloves in all their glory.

There was inspiration from Chelsea Flower Show, learning and connection through the Plant Spirit Medicine course, and lots of conversations with people curious about herbs, health and the natural world.

One of the things I love most about being a herbalist is that there's always something new to learn. Thirty years in, I'm still a student as much as a teacher.

Thank you to everyone who attended a workshop, stopped for a chat, shared a garden, or simply followed along this month.

Now, let's see what June has growing 🌿

🌿 Herb of the Month: Agnus Castus 🌿

Also known as Chaste Tree berry or Monk's Pepper, Agnus Castus has been used traditionally for centuries and remains one of the most talked-about herbs in women’s herbalism today, primarily used for PMS.

With its beautiful purple flowers and aromatic berries, it’s a fascinating plant both in the garden and in herbal history.

I think one of the joys of herbs is learning the stories behind them and Agnus Castus certainly has a long one.

Have you ever seen the plant itself growing?

22/05/2026

🌼 DID YOU KNOW? 🌼

Plants actually “talk” to each other underground.

Through networks of fungi in the soil, sometimes called the “Wood Wide Web”.

Plants can share nutrients, send warning signals and even support weaker neighbouring plants 🌱

Nature is far more connected than we often realise.

A lovely reminder that healthy gardens start beneath the surface.
