🧀 Cheese of the Week: Bleu d’Auvergne 🇫🇷

Created in the volcanic mountains of the Auvergne region in central France, Bleu d’Auvergne is a beautifully creamy blue cheese with a rich, buttery texture and a perfectly balanced tangy finish.

First developed in the mid-19th century, it remains one of France’s most celebrated blue cheeses.

Looking for the perfect pairing? Bleu d’Auvergne is delicious with crusty sourdough, fresh pears, walnuts and a drizzle of honey. When it comes to wine, it pairs wonderfully with a rich Port, a sweet Sauternes, a fruity Rioja Reserva, or a bold Cabernet Sauvignon.

We have some fantastic wines in-store that complement this cheese beautifully, and we’d be delighted to help you choose the perfect bottle.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, Bleu d’Auvergne is the perfect taster to discover what our deli has to offer. Whether you’re creating a special cheeseboard for Dad, selecting a bottle of wine, or searching for a unique foodie gift, this French classic is a wonderful place to start.

We also have a large selection of Father’s Day cards in store, you could pop it all in a hamper filled with Dad’s favourite cheeses, wines, deli treats and more – a truly special gift tailored just for him. Just ask and we will help :).

We look forward to seeing you. 🧀🍷🎁💙

🧀 Two exceptional cheddars, two distinct expressions of British cheesemaking.

🔥 Smoked Westcombe Cheddar:
Made at Westcombe Dairy in Somerset, this traditional clothbound cheddar is naturally smoked over beechwood for 48hrs, enhancing its deep, complex flavour without overpowering the cheese itself. The result is a beautifully balanced cheddar with notes of caramel, roasted nuts, and gentle smokiness.
Perfect pairings:
🥓 Charcuterie and cured meats
🌰 Toasted nuts
🍷 Full-bodied red wines
🍺 Stouts and porters

🌊 Coastal Cheddar:
Crafted on England’s rugged Jurassic Coast, Coastal Cheddar is matured in naturally humid caves, developing a rich, nutty character with a smooth, creamy texture and subtle crunches from protein crystals. Its balanced sweetness and savoury depth make it wonderfully versatile.
Perfect pairings:
🍎 Crisp apples and pears
🍯 Local honey or chutney
🥖 Rustic sourdough
🍺 Amber ale or traditional Dorset Cider would be many a local choice to partner the rugged, rich flavours of Coastal Cheddar.

Whether you prefer the cave-aged richness of Coastal or the smoky elegance of Westcombe, both showcase the craftsmanship and heritage that make British cheddar world-renowned!

✨ Curious to try them for yourself? Pop into our Deli in Watlington today or any time this week and enjoy a taste of both cheeses. We have them available as tasters, so you can discover your favourite before taking some home.

The Art of Cheese Stacking:

A form of cheese shop expression in which delicious cheese wheels are aesthetically piled on top of one another for your visual delight! 🧀🧀

While cheese stacking has no official birthplace, it draws inspiration from centuries of cheeseboard traditions across Europe, where arranging cheese beautifully became almost as important as making it!

We never tire of the different aromas, colours and textures of our cheeses which arrive weekly in our Oxfordshire Deli. Every cheese wheel that we cut into mouth watering wedges for you is always a joy to unwrap, slice and of course to taste! In this cheesy tower, from top to bottom, we have…

🧀 Pecorino rosso
🧀 Red storm
🧀 Shropshire blue
🧀 Cearphilly

This week we’re celebrating two distinctive cheeses with very different stories to tell: Oxford Blue and Tomme Mamelle.

💙 Oxford Blue, handcrafted in Oxfordshire, England, is one of Britain’s finest blue cheeses. Made with cow’s milk, it has a smooth, creamy texture and a balanced blue flavour that is rich without being overpowering.

Pair it with port, a full-bodied red wine, crisp apples, pears, or a drizzle of honey for a delicious contrast of sweet and savoury.

🤍 Tomme Mamelle, a traditional French-style tomme, is known for its rustic natural rind and creamy, supple paste. With earthy, nutty flavours and a gentle richness, it reflects the heritage of farmhouse cheesemaking. It pairs beautifully with crusty sourdough, charcuterie, fresh figs, walnuts, and a glass of Chardonnay or light red wine.

Together, these cheeses offer a wonderful journey from the rolling countryside of England to the cheesemaking traditions of France—showcasing the diversity, craftsmanship, and flavour that make artisan cheese so special.

Which would you choose first: the creamy blue from Oxfordshire or the rustic French-style tomme? 🧀

Pop in and have a taste! See you soon :).

Whether you’re spreading it on crusty bread, pairing it with fresh figs, or enjoying it straight from the spoon, every bite delivers pure indulgence.
