In the early 60s my father Roger Chapman applied for a job to work for the Reynolds butchers in Perranporth as a 15 year old boy. Butchery was not his aim but after a summer grafting he loved it and rather than look for an apprenticeship he was asked to stay on and learn the trade. By the age of 18 the Reynolds were looking to take a step back so asked my father if he would manage the shop. My gra

ndfather did not approve due to his age so they approached the family to buy the business from them. At the time our family were farmers working out of Barkla shop, so a deal was agreed and Chapmans Farmers and Butchers was founded. Ian had left school by this time and was working on the farm, but he too was keen to come into butchery. The rest is history and 50 years later there still here grafting every day.
