Daikon (mooli) is one of our favourites.
Herts veg legend Ben drops it to us fresh from the market.

We cut it into strips — for crunch.
Add chopped yuzu — for that citrus edge.
Then pickle it — for even more crunch and flavour.

Tomorrow is one of our favourite foodie fun days.
It’s Setsubun — the Japanese bean-throwing festival.

It’s a day for clearing out the bad and starting fresh, with some proper foodie fun — ehoumaki (lucky direction rolls).

Thick sushi rolls eaten whole, facing the lucky direction for the year. You don’t cut them, you don’t share them. You just hold one and eat it.

We’ll be rolling our ehoumaki from tomorrow and through the week. Pop in, have a look at the display, and enjoy a bit of tasty foodie luck.

New Year sashimi! 🐟
One of our favourite New Year foodie fun specials!

Yellowtail is at its winter best right now — rich, fatty, so good. And in Japan it’s called the “success fish” because its name changes as it grows. We love that.

And ikura — salmon roe, those little orange pearls that pop on your tongue. They symbolise prosperity. Plus they’re delicious and very fun to eat 😊

This is celebratory eating, Japanese style.
