In honour of British Tomato Fortnight we wanted to give a shout out to one of the easiest and most satisfying tomato recipes out there: salsa!

Of course, it’s easy to pick up a tub of pre-made salsa from the supermarket. But for us, homemade is always better—especially when you get to use fresh British-grown tomatoes! 🍅

All you really need is onion, garlic, fresh tomatoes, coriander or parsley, lime, salt, and sugar. There are plenty of recipes online if you’d like to be precise (one of our favourites is from Love and Lemons). Or you can just improvise and experiment! You can also use a food processor to get it to a nice chunky-but-not-smooth texture, but it’s not essential—a bit of fine chopping will also do the trick. Pair it with some gluten free tortilla chips and there you go, a light snack for a sunny afternoon!

Did you know that it’s currently British Tomato Fortnight? It’s a two-week event (running from the 2nd-15th June) celebrating and championing British-grown tomatoes.

The UK might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of tomatoes, but it turns out there are actually lots of them being grown on British soil!

Homegrown tomatoes are wonderful for lots of reasons. Firstly they require fewer miles to get from the farm to your fork, which often makes them a more sustainable option to imported varieties. Also they tend to be left on the vine for longer, which gives them a deeper flavour a more nutritional value!

So as summer rolls around, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for British-grown tomatoes in supermarkets and farm shops. Look out for varieties grown in the Isle of Wight, as well — it’s the sunniest place in the UK, after all!

You can find lots more information on the British Tomatoes website (yes, there’s a website dedicated entirely to UK-grown tomatoes).

When raising awareness around coeliac disease, one thing that’s always important is to mention that avoiding gluten isn’t always as simple as it seems. It’s not just about cutting out bread and pasta — it’s often much more subtle than that.

The problem with gluten is that it hides in sauces and seasonings, and lingers in pots, pans, and shared utensils. For people with coeliac disease, even a crumb or a trace can make a huge difference, and can trigger severe symptoms. That’s why it’s so important to know what’s in your food and where it comes from.

The only way to be absolutely certain is to choose products certified and clearly labelled gluten free. Even naturally gluten free foods can carry a risk if they’re made in an environment where gluten is also present.

This is especially important to keep in mind if you don’t live with the disease yourself, but you’re cooking for someone who does. If in doubt, always check the label!

So if you’re ever cooking for someone with coeliac disease, it’s always good practice to follow the labels!

Run out of pasta? Don’t worry, you’re still safe with our Tuna Pasta Bake Recipe Mix. It might say pasta on the pack, but it goes just as well with grains. Try it with white rice, brown rice, quinoa, or buckwheat — whatever you fancy, it’ll make a lovely meal!

Then again, if you do have pasta, it is hard to beat a good pasta bake, isn’t it?

Spring brings in the salads and the greens, like spinach for example — one of the most popular and healthy leafy greens out there. But despite its reputation as a salad filler, there are much heartier things to be done with a bag of spinach…

One of our favourites is a gluten free spinach dal. This is hearty comfort food at its finest, not only because it’s delicious and filling but because it’s full of nutrients too! Head over to our blog for the full recipe.

It’s just about coming into strawberry season, which is good news for strawberry lovers (obviously)!

Of course, you can find strawberries in the supermarkets all-year round. But nothing compares to the taste of fresh, seasonal, home-grown varieties. So keep your eyes out for British-grown varieties over the coming weeks and months, and enjoy this lovely fruit at its best (served with ice cream, cream, or chocolate is up to you…) 🍓

Asparagus season is starting, and there are lots of fuss-free ways to enjoy this wonderful spring vegetable!

For a simple seasonal dish: roast it, toss it with some cooked gluten-free pasta, and stir through your favourite sauce (we think our parsley sauce makes a great choice). If you’d like to go even greener, just add in a handful of fresh peas. Easy as that!
