I’ve mentioned a few times this week just how outstanding our beef is, and this cut proves the point perfectly.

This is the chuck, a cut we usually use for mince, burgers, and occasionally stewing steak on the counter. But when this one came in, there was no chance I was putting it through the mincer.

Richard, who works alongside Guy Douglas at Emble Farms producing this very beef, popped in for his usual lunch on Saturday morning. I showed him the chuck and he was very impressed by it.

He headed off with his lunch, but less than half an hour later he was back through the door and bought half of it. Seeing how quickly he came back for it, I decided I was taking the other half home myself!

When both the farmer and the butcher want to keep it for themselves, you know it’s something special.

I slow cooked mine for 12 hours and it turned into the most incredible BBQ pulled beef. It was so tender I could barely lift it out of the slow cooker without it falling apart. We’re having it in pulled beef sandwiches for tea tonight, and it’s absolutely superb.

If you’re looking for a budget friendly family meal, this is a fantastic cut.

Incredible flavour, melt in the mouth tenderness, and outstanding quality.

I regularly hear holidaymakers telling me that their local butcher has closed down, and it really highlights how fortunate we are here in Northumberland to still have such an incredible selection of independent butchers.

These businesses are at the heart of our communities, providing quality local British meat, expert knowledge, and personal service that simply can’t be replaced. If we don’t continue to support them, we risk losing them, just as so many communities further south already have.

I feel incredibly lucky to have such amazing local butchers around us. Since opening The Herd, they have always been there with advice, support, and a genuine willingness to help whenever needed. That kind of relationship is priceless.

Supporting local isn’t just about where we shop, it’s about protecting local jobs, local farms, local expertise, and the future of British produce for the next generation.

We’re stronger when we support one another. We are a community. 🖤

The quality of the beef on our counter right now is absolutely outstanding.

Guy has outdone himself with this one, the marbling is exceptional, the colour is beautiful, and the eating quality promises to be second to none. This is local beef at its very best.

Wagyu who? When you’ve got Angus of this standard, you really don’t need to look any further. Sourced from just 0.9 miles from the shop and 100% grass-fed, this is a fantastic example of the quality that’s right on our doorstep.
