🐝💜 A Busy Bumble Bee at Work! 💜🐝

This beautiful bumble bee was spotted collecting nectar and pollen from a Phacelia flower, often known as one of the best plants for pollinators.

Phacelia is loved by bees because it produces large amounts of nectar over a long flowering period. Its striking purple flowers act like a beacon, attracting bumble bees, honey bees and other beneficial insects from across the area.

Did you know? A single bumble bee can visit hundreds of flowers in a day while collecting food for the colony. As they move from flower to flower, they help pollinate plants, supporting biodiversity and food production.

Planting bee-friendly flowers such as Phacelia, lavender and wildflowers is one of the easiest ways to help our pollinators thrive. 🌼

Why do our bees love Phacelia?

Often called the “bee plant”, Phacelia is one of the most valuable forage crops for honey bees and other pollinators.
Its delicate purple flowers produce abundant nectar and pollen, attracting bees from dawn until dusk.

🐝 Rich source of nectar
🌸 Long flowering period
🐝 Supports honey bees, bumblebees and other pollinators
🌱 Helps increase biodiversity in the countryside

Our bees are placed right next to Phacelia, as it’s a hive favourite. The nectar gathered from these flowers contributes to a light, delicate honey with subtle floral notes.

As well as supporting pollinators, Phacelia helps create healthy habitats for beneficial insects, making it a valuable plant for both farming and nature.

It’s great to watch thousands of bees working these purple blooms on a summer’s day.

A perfect example of nature and beekeeping working hand in hand. 🍯

Went to move the last of our kit out to an apiary site, to find these had moved in! We think they swarmed in yesterday....

Went to move the last of our kit out to an apiary site, to find these had moved in!
We think they swarmed in yesterday.

A huge swarm which is great for us.
That’s another colony off to enjoy the meadows and crops once we have quarantined and checked their health.

Spring 2026 Extraction has begun at Haskins Honey 🐝

The first honey of the season is now flowing beautifully straight from the extractor — pure, raw Yorkshire honey produced by our bees after a strong spring full of blossom and some sunshine 🌼

Every jar is carefully extracted in small batches to keep all the natural flavour, aroma, and goodness exactly as the bees intended.

This year’s spring honey has a lovely light golden colour with a smooth, delicate taste that we can’t wait for everyone to try 🍯

A lot of activity in this new colony.
The Queen was due to go out on her mating flight, so gardening activities were suspended so as not to interfere with the royal parade 👸🐝
Hopefully she made it back OK - we will find out soon, when we check for eggs and larvae in the honeycomb cells .
