WOAH that's May done, then. Pretty happy to have sent out the first few bunches of the season to our flower subscribers yesterday - cheers to our returning subscribers and to the newbies - the seasonal dance has begun! (It's not too late to become a subscriber btw - see the link to the website in our bio for more info).

Since someone cranked up the heat we've been panting along like cartoon dogs trying to keep up with the bed prep, planting, watering (don't worry, high-powered 100m hosepipe not pictured/ red can for symbolism), and the suddenly imperative picking, now that our tunnel flowers have got their bleddy act together. Nature waits for no one.

and have already been amazingly supportive in stocking our late spring/ early summer mixed bunches, and we're excited to keep churning them out. No bunch ever looks the same and over the course of the season we'll be including some new varieties we've not yet tried (lisianthus - don't let us down this year, girl!) so get yourselves to one of those fine establishments!

April was a seedy month. Despite years of this now, we still sometimes have to restrain ourselves from sowing too early. It's all too easy to get caught up in the thrill of crispy new seed packets in March - just to feel like you're doing something proactive while the ground is still thawing out. But having hundreds of pot-bound seedlings aching to be planted outside too soon is a real beetch.

Anyway, this year we cracked into the seed tin right on time and we're pleased to report pretty great germination across the board so far. In fact, we have plenty of healthy spare plants we're going to be selling via and this weekend, so keep an eye out for those.

We've got (pictured) golden Chamomile and Summer Berries Achillea, as well as some (not pictured) Feverfew - all perennial plants, so you can expect them to show up reliably like a welcome guest in your garden for a number of years, and they're perfect for cut flower arranging (and drying!). A veritable bang for your buck.

More annual flowers on the horizon, too. Stay tuned!

Ranunculus! Reputedly easy to grow, we've certainly never had much luck with this blousy little brat until this year. Rodent damage and intolerably warm springs have meant embarrassing yields for us these past few years...

Thrice bitten, we weren't shy about investing once again in a 25 metre bed's worth of corms to overwinter in our polytunnel - and we're so pleased we did. Elegant and gorgeous as single stem arrangements in a vase, they also appear to dry very nicely, so we can get them hanging in the barn already to use later for our dried flower arrangements. (Lose, lose, lose...) WIN-WIN!

Nothing like a new tax year to reboot one’s mojo, am I right? Hello. We’ve been enjoying a very indulgent 3-month hiatus to recoup, reassemble and re…member who we are and what we’re doing with all these seed packets. In 2025 we grew more flowers than ever and also produced a sideline bumper crop of Crown Prince squash with Matt of - truly was a vintage year.

But, comfy though they are, we’ve rested on our laurels long enough: it’s high time we grabbed spring by the mothballs and began transforming this acre of stubborn clay into something productive once again.

Here for the long read? A few headlines:

- This year we’re striving for laser-sharp focus on flower production. (All your squash requirements will still be met by Matt via )

- We've expanded our flower patch (what - again you fools?) Yes. We’re growing another gobsmacking range of annuals this year, as well as expanding our perennial patch and giving dahlias an unforgivable amount of prime real estate, even though they treat us so mean.

- It’s still only mid spring so none of our flashy stuff is quite blooming yet, but before hitting the sofa for some hardcore winter downtime we did (though late)manage to cram our polytunnel with bulbs and hardy annuals so we'd have flowers sooner. They’re looking really healthy with flowers on the cusp of emerging - wahoo!

- We will be beginning our flower subscriptions in May. For £25/month you get a big, beautiful bouquet of seasonal flowers grown on Sheffield soil, arranged by us and delivered to your door. Sign up for the full 6 months if you’re an unabashed flower lover, or opt for slightly less commitment and go for 3 months.

We do ask for payment upfront, but our delivery dates can be flexible and work around you. E.g. you can pause subscriptions if you’re going away. If you’re interested in buying a subscription for someone else, we also have downloadable gift cards on our…

A belated thank you to everyone who stepped out in that punishing drizzle last Sunday and came to our stall at Nether Edge farmers' market. It was truly disgusting weather for selling dried flowers, but our spirits were kept aloft by the many warm interactions we had, and the very potent mulled wine one stall was serving. All told, it was a jolly time.

Now onto the hard sell...

It's Nether Edge farmers' market in T minus not enough hours, so we were up at the crack this morning, churning out festive wreaths like disgruntled caffeine-crazed elves. Pretty happy to have finished a big ole stack of them by the end of the day, though!

It's always nice to be able to source absolutely everything (except the raffia ribbon) here at the farm - the willow for the bases, holly, ivy, and of course all the decorative dried flowers and seed heads we harvested and stowed away back in the summer.

If you'd like to lay your hands on one of our festive wreaths we'll be at the market THIS SUNDAY from 11am-3pm, standing in the drizzle drinking Bailey's. And we're selling lots more than just wreaths, so come and take a look at our stall, or even just to say hello.

A big flowery finale for us - tying up the last of our fresh bunches in November!

Obviously having a polytunnel buys us a bit of extra cropping time, but hot dog! - it's been a mild autumn and generally a wild year, temps/weather wise. Our 'outdoor' flowers just won't give up the ghost.

But the big Ch is on its way and we've got more pressing matters to attend to...and frankly we want a bit more time wearing slippers and drinking cups of tea indoors. So begins the transition into dried flower arranging/wreath-making season: wahoo!

If you bought our fresh flowers, thank you so much. We hope you've been enjoying some of the new flower varieties we smuggled into our bouquets this year. We're extremely grateful: your ongoing support means we can continue to grow interesting stuff and contribute to Sheffield 's flower scene with wholehearted and unfettered enthusiasm.

Just skipping over Halloween and Bonfire Night a sec to announce that tickets for our Christmas wreath-making workshops are now on sale! (Eventbrite link in bio)

We're delighted to host THREE workshops in the lead up to Christmas, teaming up with baking wizards , who will be providing the snacks.

Dates are:

Saturday 29th November 10am- 1pm
Sunday 30th November 10am-1pm
Saturday 6th December 10am-1pm

Notable info:

- The workshops will take place inside our mega polytunnel, on the farm where we grow our flowers.

- Warm clothing and suitable footwear essential: though the polytunnel will be dry, spacious and light, the outside temperature may still be nippy (who knows - when has anyone ever been able to rely on British weather?)

- You get to harvest the willow for your wreath and we'll show you how to fashion it into a base, guiding you through the wreath-making process from scratch.

- We'll provide all the materials, including foliage and decorative dried flowers we grew from seed this growing season. So everything is sourced on site, except the raffia ribbon (natural fibre from palm tree leaves).

- Hot drinks and festive baked goods included in the price of a ticket (£50 p/p).

- (Limited) free parking on site.

It's that time of year again: straddling fresh and dried flower worlds. The last few survivors of a brutally dry summer are still blooming, but the mornings have now become too dewy for us to risk our dried stock staying in the barn any longer...so naturally we've moved everything into our living rooms! Dinner tables are a frivolous luxury anyway.

Catch us at Nether Edge farmers' market tomorrow (and again in December) and help us shift some of this mess. Cheeeeers.

Not just for Christmas, these 'everlasting' wedding wreaths were a really fun and unexpected mid-season order to fulfil last week. We don't normally have quite as much dried stuff ready this time of year, but with such a crispy summer as the one we've been having, making Clare's bridal wreaths was happily no big thang. Plus, we were pleased to clear the rafters a bit for the next wave of flowers for drying.

If you're interested in having a go at this sort of thing at home, come along to one of our Pick Your Own flowers sessions running through August and early September and we can show you which of our flower varieties will dry best and how to preserve them for eternityyyyyy.
