Just an update on our Sprouts for this year as people are starting to ask….. they are behind, really quite behind. Our really dry summer really knocked them during their main growing period. For about 6 weeks the plants just sat there and didn’t grow at all 😔 the good news is that we do have sprouts! There was a time when we wondered if we were going to have any at all. Some of our early varieties, the spouts are so small they won’t be harvestable hence why our start date is going to be significantly delayed this year. Sadly the September rain just came a bit too late to save them all. As soon as picking is looking imminent we will update , hopefully it won’t be too long! 🤞🏼

Who knew?……
Within our Sherston Sprouts plot we have 7 different varieties of Sprouts planted this year! (Who even knew that there were so many different varieties of Brussels Sprouts?!! Over 110 apparently!!)
Our Sprout varieties this year are:
Nimbus
Petrus
Bavutas
Martinus
Heymelis
Gladius
Pontus

If you look from above you can quite clearly see the slight change in colour from one variety to the next.

Here we have our sprouts being quality control checked a good few weeks ago.

FINALLY Sprout planting!!
After the driest Spring since 1976 (we have already had more sunshine this spring than the whole of last summer!) we are now Finally planting our sprouts out ready for this years harvest. Praying for some rain over the next few days now, do your best rain dances please!!

Goodbye to last years Sprouts as they get ploughed in ready to plant a Spring crop here and we’re already measuring out for this years Sprout ground. Our Brussels Sprout plants are now quietly growing in the Greenhouse, ready to plant out at the end of May 😊
