I have with me a unique item sent to me recently. Knowing my love for Petai, I decided to give it a try. It's a green chili paste loaded with Petai and Ikan Bilis. It's basically a quick fix petai sambal paste without the hassle of sourcing and making it from scratch. It is suitable for students and also those who just want a lazy Saturday off the kitchen and at the same time need their Petai Fix like me.
I have tried making it in the microwave and to be honest, no different from cooking it on a pan. It's a 10 to 12minutes ( occasional stir)with a little bit of water, add your cooked udang from Aldi, hot rice, Netflix, Old town white coffee and probably squeeze in a 30mins nap and start the process all over again🥳☺️☺️☺️
Below is my very own version of, "I need more chilies and petai"!!!. I didn't have any prawns that day so I improvised.
Finally, I used the belacan that I have sourced from Melaka to make my very own sambal belacan. Gave me all the more reasons to bin those store-bought hot sauce I have been half-heartedly buying all these years. Goodbye Tabasco Sauce.
The extra ingredients in the photo below are only optional, the jar itself is sufficient.
