Meet the Maker - ✨Afternoon Delights ✨

My name is Dawn, and I am the owner of a bespoke baking business founded in Essex nine years ago and proudly continued in Fort William following our move nearly two years ago.

When I first launched the business, I was working in a nursery while baking in my spare time. During lockdown, demand for my homemade sweet treats grew rapidly, allowing me to leave my role and pursue my long-held dream of becoming a full-time baker.

At Afternoon Delights, we specialise in beautifully presented afternoon tea boxes, as well as offering vintage china hire for special occasions and events.

More recently, I have begun attending Glen Spean Markets and other local events alongside my husband, Kevin. These gatherings provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, support the local community, and showcase some of our most popular bakes, including our much-loved Empire biscuits, caramel shortbread, brownies, and cupcakes, to name just a few.

I also make traditional homemade Scottish tablet, which is now stocked by several local independent businesses in Fort William.

I look forward to meeting many more members of the community in the future. In the meantime, please feel free to visit our page, to see our latest creations and upcoming events.

Meet the Maker!

The The Strontian Distillery team recently attended their first Glen Spean Market & we are so happy to welcome them đź”˝

Vicki & Graeme are a husband and wife team living in Strontian. A few years ago they had the idea to start creating gin recipes to reflect to wonders of Strontian itself ✨

Their four gins represent the four natural elements (earth, air, fire, water) as well as celebrate four unique aspects of Strontian: the original discovery site of Strontianite and Strontium (Sr38), the temperate rainforest (Ariundle), the site of one of Scotland’s floating churches (Floating Kirk) and the Gaelic folklore that echoes through the area (Nose of The Fairy Hill).

It’s been less than two years since The Strontian Distillery sold its first bottle of gin, and they have recently received awards from The Gin Cooperative and The Gin Guide for all four of their gins. They were particularly delighted to receive “Best In Scotland” and “Best In Britain” for Nose of The Fairy Hill.

Vicki & Graeme enjoy combining storytelling with gin sampling at Markets, Highland Games and private tasting events. They are also in the planning stages of creating site specific tours of Strontian where people are taken to the relevant sites and given the matching gin to taste.

Previous, and in adjacent to their involvement in the gin industry, Graeme & Vicki’s variety of vocations help contribute to their passionate and lively presentations. Graeme is a retained firefighter, was a bus driver, kitchen designer, driving instructor and tiler. Vicki has been an actress for over 20 years, appearing in most Scottish tv productions at one time or another, and most interestingly appeared as a distillery tour guide in an episode of Still Game!

They have only recently started attending the Glen Spean Markets, and have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and look forward to attending on a regular basis!

📢Meet the Maker Update - Great Glen Charcuturie 💚

have been attending our markets since the very beginning, they are a huge advocate for what we do, so we thought it would be great to catch up with them & hear how their business is growing.

đź“°News from Great Glen Charcuterie! đź’š

After 22 years producing from the Old Butcher Shop in Roy Bridge, they’ve moved into a brand-new, purpose-built facility closer to the owners home. It’s been a long road to get here, with plans over a decade in the making and a few challenges along the way, but the new unit is now fully up and running!

The new unit has been custom built to produce charcuterie, with increased curing and drying capacity, giving the team greater control, consistency and room to grow while continuing to supply delis, farm shops and restaurants across the UK.

Still proudly rooted in the Highlands, they remain committed to slow food, craftsmanship and local sourcing as they begin this exciting new chapter.

Catch them at the next Glen Spean Market on 9th May with their wild venison charcuterie!
