🐟 Seasonal Spotlight: Mackerel 🔍
Mackerel is a fast-swimming, oily fish with a distinctive silver-and-blue striped skin and a rich, full flavour. It’s naturally high in omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D.

It’s also a wonderfully versatile fish. Mackerel is fantastic grilled, pan-fried or roasted. Its rich flavour pairs beautifully with fresh lemon, herbs, chilli and punchy sauces. 🍋

Robert’s Fin’tastic Fishy Fact – Dover Sole!
Dover Sole is caught in the North Atlantic from the North Sea to the Mediterranean with ours being locally caught as a by catch to the langoustine fishing.

I used to sell a lot of Dover Sole to the Ljmuiden Fish Market in North Holland, using the North Shield’s ferry to Amsterdam to transport them to market where they are highly prized. Once I had delivered the Dover Sole, my lunchtime treat was to go a local fishmonger and have half a larger with five small pan-fried soles and watch the world go by until it was time to return on the ferry back.

The fish is called Dover Sole as the town of Dover was the main fishing port for the London fishing market in the 19th century. The ‘sole’ refers to the shape of the fish, a bit like the sole of a shoe.
In store, we head, tail and skin our Dover Sole ready to be pan fried or baked!
