After 35 years of trading the time has come to say goodbye to life ‘behind the counter.’ Being able to run a business in Harris has been an immense privilege and I am extremely grateful to the community for your unwavering support. It seems like yesterday that the journey began, taking over from the late Bill Kenyon - a true example in every sense. Little did I think that I would still be in business all these years later! There have been many challenges along the way but these do not compare to the incredible experiences I have had through running the shop. I have always felt that sense of community through the conversations, actions and sense of warmth that both Islanders and visitors alike brought each day. I’ve been able to reflect on the number of characters - many no longer with us - who I may never have had the pleasure of knowing if it were not for the shop.
With this in mind, I have been incredibly blessed to have had such great employees over the years making the job so much easier. I would like to thank Mairead and Karen in particular for all they have done. Both could not have been more helpful over the years and have really kept the place going. I would also like to thank John Alex and Maureen for all their help in the last couple of years.
If all goes to plan, the shop will be under new ownership with the proposed changeover date being Tuesday the 1st of July. Therefore, the shop will only operate on a limited basis on Monday the 30th of June. I am delighted to share that the new owners are a young family and have previous experience in managing a retail outlet. I wish them every success and encourage our community to support them in every possible way.
Thank you for all your support and kindness,
John ‘Brownie’ Morrison
