The countdown is on! 4 days. Or more accurately 100 hours to go! Lots to do this week... We've poured loads of effort, time and £s into this new setup, along with our supporters South of Scotland Enterprise - it would be lovely to see as many of you as possible there supporting producers and traders from all over D & G. 11am until 3pm on Saturday 13th June. 😎

Would love some comments on this one...

One of the major missing parts of most food markets is organic fruit, veg and herbs - it's a bit of a pain. Until we find a local independent greengrocer we will be supplementing this ourselves from Organic North Wholesalers, with any profits put back into the market.

We plan to concentrate on organic UK grown produce, keep it organic and good quality from elsewhere, and introduce customers to some interesting produce from further afield too (kohlrabi, purple potatoes, wet garlic, that sort of thing).

Would love to get your thoughts on whether you would be most interested in:

(A) essentials (potatoes, carrots, onions)
(B) exotic (e.g. French grapes, Zucchiolo - a cross between a cucumber and a courgette, wet garlic - mild and lovely)
(C) veg, salad and fruit boxes - curated for you
(D) produce that you can choose individually and get weighed at the stall
(E) ALL OF THE ABOVE!

It's quite an investment and we don't want waste, so we would like to get it right.

Thank you, Adam and Isabel from SRFM

Full traders list below for our debut market on Saturday 13th June at Old School Thornhill (11am - 3pm). In no particular order (we love all of you):

Annette's Baking in a box - "A range of cakes and savouries that are varied and unique, but always with a personal touch. I enjoy making items I personally love eating which includes chocolate and cream, all-butter pastry and rich fillings. I am different to many other baking businesses as I provide an alternative to butter icing, cup cakes and novelty cakes."

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate - Fresh fruit and vegetables, homemade jams, pickles, marmalades.

Farmers Arms Thornhill - Everyone's favourite Thornhill local! Gin & Tonics made with local Gins (Galloway Gin, Moffat Gin, Dark Art Gin). Cask Ale or Keg Ale/Beer from Five Kingdoms.

Galloway Food Hub - Local, producer-led, online farmers marketplace. "We only sell climate and nature friendly produce from milk, bread and cheese to fruit, vegetables and meat; plus wool and candles to honey, preserves, plants …and more!" They deliver to Thornhill, Auldgirth and Moniaive every fortnight and feature amazing producers from across Dumfries and Galloway. We're hoping they'll bring some samples too.

Jaggy Bean - Your local Thornhill coffee shop, serving all your favourites, plus a special Spider Monkey Roasters blend (naturally filtered, organic and the most ethically sourced). Selection of organic drinks and kombucha.

Low Auldgirth Steading - Certified organic small farm based in Dumfries & Galloway, passionate about championing local food systems and producing high-quality, ethical food. "Rich, flavourful eggs from our native breed geese and chickens. We also provide an extensive range of pork cuts from our rare breed pigs, all born and butchered on the farm, alongside a variety of lamb cuts from our native breed sheep."

Ninefold Rum Distillery - Scottish rums made locally from scratch using a blend of imported molasses. Ninefold Rum Distillery is nestled between woodlands on Dormont Home Farm at the heart of Dormont Estate, Dumfries & Galloway.

Pizz' of Mind - Born in Italy, made in Scotland. Mobile pizza maker based in Thornhill. Truly the best pizza in Scotland in our humble opinion - hot honey, pepperoni and ricotta if you want a recommendation!

Saucy Desserts - Makers of remarkably good puddings, including a legendary sticky toffee pudding and a range of incredible cheesecakes.

Sheri Lennon Studio - Art Prints and Cards. We invited Sherri along after being so impressed by her lovely Thornhill cover illustration for Dumfries and Galloway Life magazine - a real celebration of all that Thornhill offers.

Steilhead Cider - Traditional dry ciders, apple juice, cider vinegar. "We use wild yeasts for all our primary fermentations. Free of all artificial additives, suitable for people living with diabetes, coeliac disease &/or allergic to sulphites. We source our apples from our own & other local (to D&G) orchards, which are by their very nature, organic. We make & bottle our products ourselves."

Triko's Deli & Bakery - Sourdough loaves and pastries. Cured meats. Stacked sandwiches. Weddings, events, private dining.

With support from South of Scotland Enterprise - thank you for enabling us to run a small food producers market in Thornhill.
