Tonight we captured a swarm of bees causing quite a “buzz” around Atherton. After arriving at the reported location, the bees had moved on to another street and settled in a bush in a back garden. We secured them safely and they are now in a quarantine site to await a health check for diseases and mites. Once cleared they will be transferred into a hive and introduced into one of our apiaries. 🐝🐝🐝🐝

After a busy afternoon with a Beekeeping experience session, we got a call to collect a swarm of bees that had settled in a garden.

Me and Louie were on the scene within 15 minutes to see a HUGE swarm on a conifer.

Swarm safely secured and taken to our quarantine site to be cleared of any diseases and temperament checked before introducing them to one of our apiaries. 🐝🐝🐝

Today we had the pleasure of having Keith and his daughter Chloe attend one of our Beekeeping experience sessions.

It was a real pleasure to see such enthusiasm and curiosity and to also have great discussions about bees, pollination, the environment and how the life cycle of bees affects us

The sun was out and a fantastic session was had by all. Both Keith and Chloe weren’t phased by the bees, it also helped that the Buckfast bees we use from Black Mountain Honey were so calm and placid to work with which helped the whole experience.

We ended the day by having a taste of real honey and a jar of our beautiful local honey for them to take home. 🐝🐝🍯🍯

Honey Bee swarm season is around the corner.

We collect wild honey bee swarms free of charge. We collect them, place them into a transport box to take to our quarantine site, then finally re-home them into a beehive and keep them at one of our apiary locations close to Astley.

Please note:

We only collect Honey bees (not bumble bees).

We do not remove colonies from buildings, chimneys, ventilation bricks or from under roof tiles (we recommend Freds Bees for this)

We request that you take a picture or small video clip (use zoom feature) to send to us to confirm they are honey bees.

When honey bees swarm, they may seem scary and it’s only natural to panic. The bees are in their most docile state and just looking for somewhere to rest while they search for a new home. So don’t panic or flap your arms, just watch them fly past until they settle….. then give us a call 🐝🐝

Louie’s Local Honey UPDATE…..

Our 9 year old son got his own beehive for his birthday last year. He looked after the bees, and at the end of the season he harvested his own honey which he called “Louie’s Local Honey”.

Louie sold all the honey in record time and decided to reinvest the money he made into a 2nd beehive & colony. So this year he will hopefully have double the amount of honey and a further decision on where he wants to take his new found hobby.

We are so proud of him and he loves spending time with his bees 🥰🐝

Spring is in the air, preparations are in place for the bees to get to work.

One of our hive sponsors was so happy with the interest they gained on their roadshows from new clients towards the hive that they currently sponsor, they have decided to not only extend their sponsorship for a further 12 months, but they have added an additional 2 new hives to their annual sponsorship program from us at Walker Bee Honey 🐝
