A happy New Year to all of our customers.
We just wanted to update you all, that with a heavy heart we have decided to close the smoky barrel permanently and cease trading, including our web shop and markets, once our current stock is sold. We have tried our very best but are being realistic about the future of the business.
The last Year has been incredibly tough, and a real challenge to keep prices affordable. Beef has risen by around 30% alone, and this as our core business, as well as packaging and all other associated costs no longer make it viable, as there is a ceiling on what we can charge for what is essentially a luxury, nice to have treat, not a staple day to day food.
Since we started in 2017, we feel we have achieved our aim of providing sustainably and ethically produced real beef jerky. We have seen our jerky been taken on expeditions to Everest, round the world sailing competitions, winning awards and even been on the BBC! As well as meeting a lot of lovely people of course.
