A 71-year-old man from Africa has spent 55 years living completely alone because he is extremely afraid of women. This fear is called gynophobia. Gynophobia means having a strong and uncontrollable fear of women.
When the man was just 16 years old, his fear became so bad that he decided to lock himself inside his house. To make sure no one could come near him, he built a 15-foot-tall fence around his home. After that, he never left the house and never spoke to anyone from outside.
For more than half a century, this man has lived alone in total isolation. He stays inside every day, away from people and away from the outside world, just to make sure he never sees or talks to a woman.
Doctors say his fear is very rare and very serious. His extreme phobia made him completely cut himself off from society. Instead of getting help, he chose to hide from the world for most of his life.
